  Call a nursery. They use them to wrap plants that are nursed. If you call them they might be able to tell you where you can get long pieces of burlap.

  I just made these :)Home Depot/Lowes have 3'x24' rolls for about $10 in the nursery section. I got a roll earlier in the year at Hoover's Farm Market, but I don't remember how much I paid for it (I think less than $10, but it was a smaller roll). It was much higher quality though than the roll from Home Depot.

  They also have some beautiful burlap fabric at Jo-an Fabrics. We were thinking about using it as well but then decided to go with something else.

  I'm using the Home Depot rolls, as well. It is much cheaper than by-the-yard from fabric retailers. It was more expensive from our local nursery supply, too.   Just wanted to add; I am cutting mine into 12-in. widths to use as runners, too. I'm using a quilters' square and craft knife to make sure my lines are straight, then fraying each edge slightly for a consistent look. So far, so good.
