Coast Brides?

Hey all, I'm down here in Biloxi and I thought it might be fun to have some fellow coasties to talk to about wedding planning. I'm getting married in December and have lots of great ideas in my head but there are still lots of holes to fill in...like centerpieces. So, fill me in on what's up! (and give me some ideas!)

Re: Coast Brides?

  • Welcome!

This board can be SLOW, but we do try to come around here and there - I'm not a coast bride - I got married in Jackson, but tell us what your ideas are! I'm sure more coast brides would love to know!
  • hey! I'm on the coast, too... getting married in a month!  I plan on writing a vendor review after the wedding, but I checked out a lot of vendor and a million picture so let me know what kind of questions you have and I'll help if I can!
  • I'm in Biloxi too! I'm getting married in three weeks so I'm done with all of the planning and fun stuff. Where are you getting married?
  • Yay! I'm getting married at Sacred Heart in D'Iberville. The only problem is that I can't use their hall for the reception and both the St. Martin and D'iberville Civic Centers are booked. I'd really like to have the reception at restaurant in a banquet room or something, but I don't know of anything close. Do either of y'all know of a good place for a reception in the Biloxi or D'iberville area?

  • Also stumped on catering options... I'm really new to all of this!
  • So glad I found you girls! I'm getting married 11/3/12 in Biloxi. We are having our reception at the Biloxi yacht club. It's only $300 to rent or $400 with a dance floor and they do the catering. They have lots of food to choose from so it is hard to give you an estimate. We are paying about $23 per person. Another option is the Ohr museum (right next to the yacht club) for the reception.I also looked into the Redding House, but they were booked on my day. Try the casinos too or the South Beach Hotel if you want something outside. I hope that helps.

I need some suggestions on rehersal dinner location, officiant, flowers, bakery and hair/makeup salons. Any ideas are helpful as I'm new to the area too.
  • Has anyone had an outdoor wedding at one of the casinos?
  • danielsl, I am so jealous!! i wanted the biloxi yacht club soooo much but someone snatched it up!! I am looking into the ocean springs yacht club or one of the ballrooms in the beau rivage or imperial palace.  i read on the website for the ohr museum that you could only hold an event there after hours, and mine will be in the afternoon, so i guess that's out. i forgot about the redding house though, so i'll definitely check that out.

for the rehearsal dinner, i'd definitely recommend mary mahoney's. it's kind of an old-biloxi type place. i think they even have a private room if i'm not mistaken. i haven't decided on the other things yet, but for a wedding i was in in august, we all had our hair done at serendipity spa (i think that's what it was called) kind of near the grand theater in d'iberville, and they did a beautiful job! a friend of mine is making the cake, but i heard that melissa's specialty cakes is really good.

tonya, i don't know anyone who has done anything outdoors at the casinos, but i'm looking into using one of the ballrooms at the beau or ip.
  • sdelgaicco-Sorry to make you jealous! I booked the BYC as soon as I saw it. There is also a yacht club in gulfport that is suppose to nice. Your right about the Ohr, the events have to start after 5. If you want something outside, there is a gazebo in downtown ocean springs on hwy 90 and washington that is cute. In Biloxi there is a methodist retreat center that rents to the public. www.seashoreassembly.org/. They have a beautiful boardwalk around oak tree, it's hard to describe but check out the website. For more pictures  go here www.jamesedwardbates.com/p470233216.

I've heard of Mary Mahoneys, but haven't been there yet. I'll have to check it out and thanks for salon suggestion too.

For people looking for caterers I heard good things from serveral brides about Broome's Grocery in Ocean Springs.
  • tonyacagle- I seen weddings outside on the beach, but not outside at the casinos. Sorry!
  • wow, glad to see there are so many people on here. I'm looking at getting married in October and am looking for a DJ. I dont know much about the different venues, but if you can find a jan/feb issue of BeachBlvd, that was the bridal issue and it has a full listing of all the venues.

As far as restaurants go, I receommend the Half Shell in Biloxi, it is SOOOO good and not too expensive. You could probably reserve the upstairs if you call them.

Let me know what you find out about the Ocean Springs yacht club or any other fun venues, I'm getting married soon and so is my best friend.
  • Also, does anyone have info on the ocean springs yacht club? their site has NO info about weddings
  • drumlove07- I totally forgot about the half shell.  Thanks! I've noticed that a lot of vendors in this area don't have a website. You will just  have to call. It is such a pain especially if you are not from the area. Do you have an florist recs? I don't really care about flowers too much I'm looking to save some money there.
As for a DJ I booked with Richard Martin. He had really good reviews on wedding wire and reasonably priced. There is also Jim Horn, but I've heard that he is very, very expensive.

  • drumlove, i'd recommend e-mailing manager@osyc for info about the ocean springs yacht club. the girl on the phone said he was easier to get in touch with via e-mail. he sent me the info for my date and it looks pretty good.
  • Thanks for the suggestion!  Will do.

[QUOTE]there are a ton of churches here if that's what you want, but most places also allow you to have the ceremony andthe reception at the same place.you may want to call the Sun Herald (228.896.2100) and see if you can get a copy of their BeachBlvd magazine from Jan/Feb of this year. That was the bridal issue and has a list of venues. If you find a good DJ while you're looking, let me know.

  • Hope everyone's planning is going swell. Thanks to everyone who has shared info. If anyone has any additional reception venue ideas, I will gladly take them, as things keep not working with the places I like (i.e. NONE of the yacht clubs will call or email me, another place is completely overpriced, etc...) Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  • We are 99% sure we are going to go with the Biloxi Visitors Center. We will have it at 5pm when it closes so we can have the entire place to ourselves. If anyone has any feedback on it, let me know because I would love to hear it!!
  • I've never even been there but it looks nice! I'm still on the hunt if anyone has any more ideas

I am an ordained minister and I am doing a wedding at the Flur de Lis Reception Hall on Rose Farm Rd in Ocean Springs.  Price is very good with catering a little more. I think my future DIL paid $1600 without catering.  Would love to hear from ALL COASTAL BRIDES ... I am getting a lot of information form all of you from your conversations, but if you happen to know of anyone getting married that needs a minister my husband and I are available.  I have a friend that I married and her husband is a DJ and also has Karoke, very fun person. We have connections to alterations and other informatons as well.  I see that F & B Catering has gone out of business. I have connections to local DJ's and caters also wedding decoratig.  If you see any typos in my message please forgive me as I am having ssues with my keyboard lol.  Congratulations to al the Coastal Brdes. If I can help in any way e-mail me at weddingdreamscomingtrue@gmail.com or karend2130@gmail.com or visitmy site: http://yourdreamscomingtrue.webs.com/

    Warmest Wishes
  • Ooh, the Visitors Center looks really nice from what I can tell.  It is one of the venues on ourlist to check out when I am in town at the end of the month.

Are you using an outside caterer?
  • 14 months til my wedding date!  I'm realizing anew everyday that the next year and change are going to fly by!!!! (Just sharing)

Yes I think we are using Southern Flavor Catering. Our tasting is in July when I go down to visit...!
  • I live in Biloxi as well. I am already married but me and my husband will be renewing our vows next year for our 5 year anniversary and since we didnt do a real wedding the first time, we are going all out and doing an actual wedding for our anniversary!
  • Another option for a reception is the Slavonian Lodge.  It is behind the Grand Casino and has a beautiful ballroom inside.  They are extremely nice to work with!
  • Does anyone have any salon recommendations for the coast? Anyone who would come offsite as opposed to me going there?
    Thanks!
  • The Redding House in Biloxi is nice. I don't know much about the specifics, but it won't hurt to check it out. The Slavonian Lodge is beautiful, that is where I am having my reception. It has two rooms a small and big room. There is the Walter Anderson Community Center in Ocean Springs that is also beautiful. Hope this is helpful.
