Blackberry Users

I currently have the LG Dare (Verizon) and am contemplating switching to a Blackberry when I'm eligible for an upgrade.Any pros or cons to a regular mobile device? How is the web browser? Is it worth the extra costs, etc?

I have a BB and FI has a Dare...I am actually getting rid of my BB after weighing the pros ands cons because I want to save money and the main thing I am going to miss is blackberry messenger.  I will be saving $40 per month at least by switching. Pros to BB: BBM (obsessed), instant email, brick breaker (dumb game but I like it), facebook app, calendar sync w/google calendar, gchat app, good keyboard Cons: More expensive, crappy camera, crappy web browsing (I think the Dare is better), big and heavy

Thanks, STBS! What kind of BB do you have?

And can you message non-BB users with the BBM?

I have a Blackberry Curve.  As far as I know, you can only BBM with other blackberry users.  Luckily, I know a lot of crackberry fans and we BBM aaaall the time.  I am going to miss that feature because its easier than texting back and forth...BUT not worth $40 IMO

BB Curve user.  Once you go Crack you never go back, so be prepared if you upgrade.  I seriously don't think I could function without it.  I think the web browser gets the job done - it's come a long way from when I first started using a BB.

Jen - is it true the browser isn't HTML compatible?

i also have a BB curve, and think the web browser is ok. I dont use it a lot, but whenever I need it, it gets the job done. I also love BBM and love the instant email and facebook app. I wont ever be able to go back to a regular cellphone. it is a bit more expensive though

If you are with Verizon and are thinking about upgrading to a smartphone, you may want to wait a little bit longer.  I have heard from many people who work for Verizon that come 2010, they will have an iPhone.  Don't know exactly when, but considering it's in the works now, I am guessing fairly soon in 2010.Just a thought.  I know with ATT, the iPhone is the same price as a blackberry/other smartphones, and does alot more than some of them.

BriarRose - FI just upgraded his phone last night & the consultant told us that the iPhone probably won't happen in 2010. Verizon & Apple cannot come to an agreeance & Apple renewed their contract with AT&T.

Oh wow, that's good to know, Steffie.  Thanks for letting me know- my mom and sister are still on Verizon and had planned to stay there bc they were told that about the iPhone by friends who work there, but if that's the case, I better let them know so they can decide what to do.Thanks for the tidbit!

NP. FI & I are still holding out with Verizon until they [eventually] acquire the iPhone. We're too skeptical to completely switch providers.

I completely understand where you are coming from.  The only reason I switched is because FI is on ATT with his family business, and I was eating up minutes like crazy.  I have to say, I liked Verizon more.  I feel their coverage and signal was much better than what I have experienced with ATT.  So I know how you feel.

That's our gripe with AT&T! I feel (and have heard) that the coverage is not up to par with Verizon. And apparently a recent report showed that their customer service ratings are significantly down.

Steff - I'm going to say yes but don't quote me on that.  I'm just a scientist addicted to technology - computers are beyond my scope = )

I have a pink blackberry curve and I love it. Not all of the websites work very well with the default browser, but everything that I've used it for works.
