DJ recs and pricing

I'm trying to find a DJ - I've made some calls and met with 2 DJs so far.  Do you girls have any recommendations?  I'm looking for a DJ for 6 hours the quotes I've received so far are from $1150-$2,500 - is that typical?  I'm getting married in Waltham so looking for someone North of Boston or around the Boston area. Thanks!

I'm using Curtis Knights DJ's and I'm paying 895 for 5 hours.. I think 6 hrs is an additional hundred and fifty... so your quote of 1150 is reasonable but 2,500 is not. IMO, 2,500 is a ridic amount to spend on a dj!

We spent $1250 for 5 hrs with Good Times Unlimited, they were amazing to work with. I believe it was a little more per additional hr, I think 1400 for 6 hrs? But well worth it!

I'm also using Curtis Knight and they have great prices!  I booked in 2008 so my prices are pretty low ($800 for 5 hours) but I think their prices are still pretty low.  I know that NuImage is around $2500 but many people feel that they are well worth that.  I felt that Curtis Knight allowed me to get a great DJ at a reasonable price.

I'm using Mark Cherone.  First we met with Curtis and he recommended Mark so we met with him next.  He's really laid back but he's a GREAT DJ and all his recommendations are positive. We really wanted someone with a decent amount of experience that could read the crowd.  I don't want to have to give the DJ too much direction, and I really trust Mark to do a great job.

I'm using DJ Jeanie.... someone (I can't remember who) just wrote a vendor review with a rave about her. If you scroll back a few pages you should be able to find it (hopefully!). Really, no matter who you use they are great. If you contact them just tell them exactly what type of dj you are looking for and if you're not sure just tell them someone experienced who can help make your reception awesome... thats what I did.

Hi- I'm going with Nu Image and they are $2,500 but IMO are totally worth it. I've been to about six weddings who have had them and they were the best. Dj is really important to me though, more than many other areas, so I was prepared to dish out the cash for it. HTH!

We used Aaron Topfer for our wedding and he was great. Review in bio under Vendor Reviews. I think he charges $1295 for unlimited hours for cocktail hour and reception. We also hired him to play the piano for our ceremony, and then he arranged to have a saxophone player and a bass player come in for the cocktail hour and dinner so we'd have a jazz trio for live music then (him on piano plus them). Anyway, here's his website http://www.1877yourmusic.com

We're using John Cristoferi. He has a fantastic personality and completely gets our musical taste so we're looking forward to having him there that day. He's doing 5 hours for $750 (he knocked $100 for off-season).

I'm using Beat Train Productions, it is $1300 for the cocktail hour and reception, no specified time limit.  They get good reviews and have been really responsive so far.

I'm using DJ JT Stevens, http://www.jtstevens.com/ - a very old and dear friend of mine who gave us a discount, but I think his regular prices are still crazy affordable - $650 or so? I think it depends on the hours and extras (lights, etc.) I love it because he won't go rouge on me (take over the mike, mispronounce names, etc.) - and my FI wants a bit more traditional stuff, and I want a club atmosphere - so he's going to blend the two (he has a background in clubs, but can do anything). I'm heavily relying on his expertise because I just don't have time to micromanage the music... even though I want to... :)

We are using the same DJ as erilou. He has been wonderful to to work with so far and his prices are VERY fair.

I used DJ Jeanie with Curtis Knight...let me tell you, the bes DJ by far I have ever had at any event. She was beyond words!!!  In her down time she took pictures at the wedding.  we just got the DVD in the mail the other day and it made me cry!!!  it was a 12 min montage of the wedding with our songs on it.  People pay alot of money for that, and she did it for free!!!  She played everything just the way we wanted it and she gave us music CD's at the end of the night with all the music that was played that night.  She is an incredible DJ, went way above and beyond!!! We paid $700.00 for 4 hours because we had a pianoist for the cocktail hour.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

I used Jeff Stone from Get Down Tonight Entertainment. VERY happy with him, he did a great job. He did a great job reading the crowd and kept the dance floor packed all night. I got a lot of compliments about him afterwards. I paid around $1200 for ceremony and reception- 6 hours. Good luck!
