Tent?

Need help making a decision about renting a tent. We are renting a ballroom that has a large terrace overlooking downtown Greensboro. We hope to have the ceremony on the terrace near the huge skylight which is all lit up at night. But...we need to be prepared for rain.  If it rains that day....Would you rent a tent (nice ones with draping etc. are $2K) and still have the ceremony outside near the skylight? ORWould you have everything inside the ballroom and save money?The thing is the skylight is so pretty lit up at night.  Here is a picture?http://cicelyandtony.wordpress.com/the-ceremonyreception-venue/WWYD?

    Cicy, I love the idea of the tent, but if you love the skylights I say forego the tent, your wedding is in October, I would maybe determine closer to the date if I needed the tent, maybe say late August or Sept. You can even check the farmer's almanac to get a good idea of rain possibilities of that day:) BTW: I may be biased because my ceremony is on the beach, and my cocktail hour, and after dinner lounge is on the terrace, so I am all the way OUTSIDE bride,lol.....

    So I think the terrace is beautiful as well, but I, too am an 'outside bride' so I am a little biased.  I woudn't rent the tent if I were you.  If it rains (and I'm doing the dance of all non-rain dances) ask the venue if they can move the ceremony inside that day.  Perhaps you can 'call it' that morning.  Because even the forecast can be wrong the day before.  My aunt got married in August and it rained the entire week leading up to the wedding and then decided it wasnt going to rain the day before and the day of (even though the weather man said it was going to pour).  We just held out and it was a beautiful day.I think tents are way too much money for something you may not need.  Like Miabride said, wait until later next year to actually decide, but I personally think it would be more beautiful without.And maybe if it's just lightly sprinlking you can do something cute like umbrellas for your guests in your colors and you can have a huge white one (as long as it isn't a terribly long ceremony.  You could even find umbrellas with a chandelier or whatever the motif is and that could double as the favor if necessary.  If you end up not using, send them back!

    totally agree with the other ladies - no tent...ask the venue if they have a contingency plan to move everything inside in case it rains the day of your wedding...if that's possible, then get them to amend your contract accordingly and work from that option as your safety net...that pic of your venue is absolutely breathtaking and I wouldn't put a tent up and cover that scene - no way!! :)

    Thanks for weighing in on it.  Not having a tent leaves room for for other things....like gold opera style chairs in the ball room.  Yay! I love the umbrella idea BTW and may use it as a back up instead of the tent.  Great idea.ALF: I just hate covering the scene up too.Ci

    I heard you can get a tent on Craig's list from a previous owner for less than the cost to rent it.
