Oh God I am mortified

My H just told me two of the people hanging out with us are going to dress as Hitler and a prision camp victim. :/1. We aren't happy. This is beyond insulting. 2. This friend has never said or done anything racist before. I can't be friends with some who does this. 3. I wonder how our other friends will react.4. We can't stop them from being at the same bar as us, but I want to avoid them at all cost. 5. This is going to end badly. I see a huge physical fight ensuing. 6. WhereTF do you even get a Hitler costume? What a$$hole would make these? Do you find this funny? I fail to see the humor.

Re: Oh God I am mortified

• WTF??  I do not find that funny at all and I would avoid them also.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
• I am actually turning red right now in embarrassment.  I couldn't hang out with them either.  In fact, I'd probably be the one to start the fight.
• I don't find it funny.  I could see a few select people finding it funny, but I think most people would be upset by it.  Hitler himself...well...I would think it was tasteless but could be worse, but adding a prison camp victim, that's over the line, IMO.

• Uh no. That is not even remotely funny. Can you give your other friends a heads up? Perhaps a group cold shoulder can be prepared so if they show up like that they won't have fun and will quickly go away? Jimeny Christmas, that just isn't right.
• Not funny at all.  I've seen Hitler costumes and thought it was distateful, but to compound the insult by adding a prison camp victim is completely deplorable. How anyone finds humor in this is beyond me.
• there is nothing even remotely funny about that.can you say something to them about it?
• Also, that's not even remotely clever.
• I am not going to NOT voice my opinion on this. I need to make a few calls.

• OMG. WTF?  Who does this?  I can't understand how someone would remotely find this funny. I hope you can all join together and avoid them. Can you go to a different bar and not tell them?

• I require updates on this one.
• Reminds me of the plethora of Osama bin Laden costumes a few years ago.  Umm, seriously people?  Even all the MJ ones this year disturb me (to a lesser extent, but still).
• I'm with mandapanda, a group cold shoulder would be in order. I don't find this funny at all. Unless the prison camp victim publicly kicked the sh*t out of the person dressed as Hitler, but still, that would only be moderately humorous.

• No we can't go to a different bar. We are going to a friend's bar, well,  both his bars. Damnit, now I might lose a friend.

• This reminds me of Prince Harry's costume from a few years ago- not the exact same, but still completely irresponsible and in poor taste.

• Ditto pp.  Not even remotely funny on any level.  This is not edgy or clever.  What an awful idea - they deserve to get beat up.

• Are there bouncers/doormen at these bars? Can they be forwarned to deny them entrance? I really think if you give your other friends a heads up there is NO reason for them to blame/disown you. I wouldn't blame someone for knowing someone who turned out to be a shiit. Happens to everyone.
• I agree, manda.  If you forwarn everyone and ignore these two sickos you will not be blamed.  However, I do think that would completely ruin my night, whether I knew them or not.
• Is it too late to enforce 'Party Etiquette' of some sort?Like, Hi Everybody we are hosting a funny Halloween party. Dress up in your FUNNIEST, non-offensive costumes.

• Wow. No, not funny at all.Can you talk to them before the party and see what their thinking was and tell them whatever it was, just...no.
• If they are close friends I would let them know how disgusted you are with the idea.  The costumes could very well incite violence.  If they are just friend of friend I would still tell them and then shun.

• I think that is pretty crass.
• I have decided that I am just going to straight up ask her wtf is wrong with her? I will update.

• Ricks, is the link you posted one of the real costumes? Honestly that's more disgusting than a realistic SS uniform.  You can't cutesy up a Nazi uniform and expect to get away with it.
• Looking at that link made me want to punch someone in the face.

• Prince Harry did it, so it must be okay. Such costumes are sold to the public, so it must be okay. Um, yeah... still not okay. I guess I could keep my cool with a Hitler costume, but Hitler plus camp victim is just beyond comprehending. I would def. lose my cool.
• You need mrsE to straighten them out.
• No that isn't her costume. I have no idea what her's looks like. I just found out mins. ago. My H and I are going as blond haired blue eyed (well me at least) swiss alps people. All our friends are white. People will think we are skin heads.

• This kid dressed like this to his HS and got in serious trouble. If I remember correctly, he was suspended for quite some time and had to write an apology.
