Name Change Delimma

I am having trouble parting with my madien name. I was previously married and hypenated my name (madien-married), this lead to major confusion, everything always ended up listing only my madien name since it ended up being so long, which to me completely defeated the purpose of changing it to begin with. I want to use my married name, that's what I want to be known as. I'm hispanic, and my fiance is not, dropping my name completely feels like throwing away my culture. So it is important that it remain on my documents (i.e. driver's license, social security card, etc.) What is the proper way to hypenate my name? HELP!!!

Don't hyphenate it; just get your name changed back to your original maiden name and keep it that way. Your FI should understand.

Can you use your maiden name as your middlename? I feel the same way, I love my maiden name. I'm also Hispanic and FI is not. I wasn't given a middle name like Ann or Marie so my official middle name is my mother's maiden name ( first name, mother's maiden name, father's last name). I'm thankful for this because I will keep my maiden name as my middle name and take my FI's last name. On all documents, my name will be first name, maiden name, married name, not hyphenated. I will also sign documents with my maiden name as the middle initial.

There is no proper way... do what you like. Some ideas: 1. You can do Maiden-New or New-Maiden. 2. You can not change you name & just be socially called his last name. (I will be doing this) 3. Put your maiden as a second middle name. 4. You can even make a new name out of the two last names (But that might require a formal name change in your State) He can adopt this new last name too, but that definitly would require a formal name change. Brainstorm & figure out what works for you & check the law in your state to see how difficult each option would be.

I understand as my family fought in court for years for me to be adopted by my "step" dad. After 11 years, I was finally able to change my name legaly. But I will be going by my FI's last name and will simply keep my maiden name as a second middle name. You could: Keep just your maiden name.Hyphenate your name again, but go by FI's last nameKeep maiden name as a middle name.

I'm thinking about not changing it and just using the married one socially. I always thought I'd take my husbands...but when my dad died 9 yrs ago that changed. The last name dies w/my sister and I and even though I don't love that actual name...I can't part w/it. It MY name. I feel so strongly about it that if FI threw a fit there'd be no wedding. It's who I am.
