What do you eat/drink when you're sick?

I've been throwing up since about 3 am.  The puking seems to have subsided, I kept some soup down (so far) for lunch.  But I'm super hungry.  I know I shouldn't eat a lot, and it should be bland food, but I don't think I can choke down any more crackers or dry toast.  Any other suggestions?  Also, I'm tired of water.  What can FI bring me to drink?  I know juice and stuff with too much sugar can make stomach issues worse.  Any suggestions there?PS...if anyone makes a PREGNANT?!?!?!?11!!!! comment, I will come through this computer screen and throw up on you.  Thanks.

  • Do you think you might be pregnant?

  • I think sprite usually helps
  • try drinking gatorade, thats what my dad always gave us when we were sick. and chicken noodle soup.
  • If you are hungry and able to keep down food, you are probably in the clear.  Maybe drink some Gatorade to restore your electrolytes?
  • Damn it Fishy, when it stops snowing, I'm driving up there.

  • Ginger ale. Diet ginger ale if you're worried about calories. Also, popsicles are good. They may not make you feel better but if you puke at least it'll be in interesting colors. I hope you feel a lot better soon! I hate puking. :-(
  • Have your FI drive to the store and get you some gingerale and a pregnancy test.
  • Drink gingerale. If you have fresh ginger, shave some into tea or into the soda (the ginger helps to calm your stomach.) For morning sickness (not suggesting pregnancy...) they recommend the BRATT diet - bananas, rice, applesauce, toast and tea. It may help calm your stomach. Personally, if I'm sick, I want chicken noodle soup.

  • I'll have him bring some G2 home.  I don't like Sprite :-pI'm not sure I'm quite in the clear yet, I'm still queasy, even though everything is staying down so far.

  • I always go with the BRAT diet when I have been sick like that.  Bananas, rice, apple sauce, toast this includes crackers.  I would have him get you some gator aide for the electrolites, or Canada dry.  The bubbles always make my stomach feel better.  Hope you feel better...
  • OH MY GOD are you pregnant?? I suggest ginger ale and some oatmeal.
  • applesauce was always my go-to.That and mashed up bananas with a tiny bit of sugar sprinkled on them (for some reason, they seem to get bitter when they're mashed). What about some rice? My mom always made chicken and rice for us as our first "welcome back" meal.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • You want bland foods and drinks so you can rehydrate yourself.  Puking dehydrates the heck out of you.  If you can't handle any more plain water, perhaps try to put a lemon/lime/orange wedge in it to add a bit of flavor.  Make sure the water isn't too cold.  If you want to try pop, you can try sprite/7-up or ginger ale.  It's best to be room temperature and with little to no carbonation.  Try pouring a glass and letting it sit for a couple of hours. For food, I'd try soups with little in them, maybe just chicken broth and noodles.  Something like Ramen, but I think ramen may be too salty.  You can also try to eat some plain pasta.  I wouldn't put any butter or oil on it, though. Hope you feel better soon.  It sounds uber sucky being you right now!

  • Ginger ale and chicken noodle soup. Which, I'm sure the chicken soup is old ... but you can dunk the dry crackers in the broth ... and I actually find that tasty even when I'm not ill. Please feel better ... I'm actually feeling like I'm coming down with something ... did I catch your interweb germs?

  • missy just reminded me.  One time, my mom, me and my brother were all sick.  She made plain white rice and sprinkled some cinnamon sugar on it.  It was good and didn't upset any of our stomachs.

  • Wait, if I suggest you are knocked up that means you will fly out to LA?  In that case, are you pregnant?!?
  • Gingerale or Pepsi/Coke to settle the stomach.  I stir it up a bit to get rid of some of the carbonation.  I eat crackers and chicken noodle soup when I'm not feeling well.  Sometimes I put some peanut butter on the crackers, just to mix it up a bit, if I've been feeling sick for a few days.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • I have no idea why but V8 juice always seems to make me feel better.
  • Gatorade and tea to drink. Scrambled eggs and a piece of toast with butter is my go-to when my stomach isn't feeling well.
  • Aw, you guys are all so sweet :)  I feel bad for Minka, she kept cuddling up by me (I think she knows I'm feeling badly) but every time she got comfy I was running for the bathroom.  She's now glaring at me from safely up on top of her kitty tower.I can probably do rice too.  Ok to cook it in some chicken brother so it's more exciting?  Probably, since soup is good for sickies.

  • ginger ale is always my go-to drink. The ginger helps quell the nausea, especially during morning sickness. Guess you've got to come to GA now. ;-)
  • Just be careful with the salt from the chicken broth - try to use low sodium if you have it

  • My mom always recommended the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast). Ramen is also a good standby (with or without the flavor packet), since the mixture of bland carbs and liquid is what your body needs.I'd stay away from any processed sugars or meat/dairy, since it's harder for your body to digest. If you haven't thrown up for an hour, get some Emetrol (at drugstores). It's a magical anti-nausea liquid that will totally make you feel better. I used to have a bottle for nasty college hangovers... I swear by it, seriously.Flat coke also helps. I'm sorry you're sick :(
  • Ugh. I am sick right now and can't stomach much either, but low sodium soups have been good to me... and white steamed rice.
  • I always use low sodium, Tide.  Hate super salty soups and broths.  Thanks!Well, it looks like I'm making a cross country knottie tour.  NC, GA, CA, ND.  You all suck ;)Thanks, Poli!

  • plain white rice, flat coke was moms remedy.  I suggest skipping the gatorade (sugar water) and drink Pedialyte.

  • My mom swears by the BRAT died - Bananas, rice, apples, toast. So, that's usually what I go for when I'm sick and have somewhat of an appetite. I drink water and ginger ale.
