Help! What do I wear to my friend's Black Tie Wedding?

Hi Ladies, Hoping you all can give me some advice. I'm invited to a Black Tie wedding in NYC at the end of October. My current dress is black, knee length and beaded on the top.  If I wear it with some nice jewelery and some strappy, silver silettos with some bling - is that approriate for a NY Black Tie wedding? Also, I heard somewhere that only black shoes are OK - no silver? I know I'm supposed to be in a long gown, but I'm pregnant and can't find one that looks OK and doesn't cost a bunch of $ (esp. for something I'll wear once). I live in CA and Black Tie doesn't really happen here so this is my first, and last pregnat, Black Tie wedding. Do I need to get a full-length Gown to be appropriate and not feel out of place? Please help!

That sounds fine to me (particularly if it is "black tie optional" rather than "black tie required").  A lot of the younger girls will probably be wearing full length.  And silver shoes are definitely fancy enough.

No worries.  That sounds totally appropriate.

everyone will understand that you're pregnant so no need to worry about wearing a cocktail dress instead of black tie!

I think it's fine, but I also think that since you're pregnant, you get a break. If you showed up in something less fancy, they should just be happy you're there.

That dress sounds great.  YOu'll be fine.  Just went to a big-bling black tie wedding in September and almost every woman was in a knee length dress.  And lots of guys in suits, not tuxes.  I wore a silvery grey knee length dress and felt totally appropriate.

Sounds fine.   You'll find that the trend these days is away from floor-length gowns at black tie weddings; a lot of people just wear cocktail length dresses.  And honestly, even if it weren't?  You're pregnant!  Wear whatever you want!
