NWR: cat using a toilet?

hey girls. I posted this on the nest but didn't get much a response. Fi and I are moving into a condo at the end of the month, and I want a kitten, but I've never had one before (just dogs) and have been looking online to get all the information i need to train a kitten, and to get all the supplies i will need, and I saw supplies to train a cat to use a human toilet. is this for real? do any of your cats use the toilet? is it safe?

I've never heard of this. I would opt for the litter box. Do you really want to use the toilet after the cat uses it? Its actually pretty funny though picturing a cat trying to use the toilet.

I've only heard of this in theory, not in reality. But hey - if you succeed, I wanna hear all about it!There's NO way I'd want my cat using my toilet, and plus, my cat has a fasciantion with water and would probably spend more time IN the toilet bowl if we ever kept the seat up.Litter boxes are easy to clean. And it's a cat's natural instinct to dig, cover, etc. before and after going potty.

Well I was just looking to get "regular" cat supplies and I started to become fascinated with all the "new" stuff they sell. The cat genie for instance, sounded great, and had awesome reviews about how its the most sanitary thing out there, until I read that it's bigger than a toilet!! So I really don't think that would fit anywhere in the place we're getting. And then I saw a set of toilet seats to train your cat to use a real toilet, and I couldn't help but laugh thinking about that movie "meet the parents" but then it had a whole bunch of reviews from people that have really trained their cat to do it. Someone on the philly board even posted back with a you tube video of cats actually flushing the toilet. I'm not sure if I'm going to try it because when I leave the cat alone too long, I'm scared it will drown. I just wanted to know if anyone else has done this, or knows of someone that did it, or tried it, and how successful they were.

Did you get the kitten yet?  My mom has the sweetest little cat that is probably 6 months old.  She found her outside and has been feeding her, etc.  We named her Lola and with the winter coming, we feel bad and want to find her a home.  She is very friendly and sweet, and so adorable, the cutest orange tan color, kind of like butter!  Email me at ksukinik at yahoo dot com if you are interested.  She really needs a good home and we are running out of options for her !

I have heard of this... I have 2 cats and we just use a regular litter box, no toilet.  But when I saw this post, it made me think of thishttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49jKeGyUCJE

ksukinik- I haven't gotten a kitten yet, but I had a hard enough time convincing FI to let me get one, I think "stray cat" might be pushing it, but I'll ask him later. Have you thought about getting the cat a little dog house? I know it's not the best idea, but when my sister moved home years ago with her two cats, (my dad is allergic and refused to let them inside,) she put a heating blanket in the dogs old dog house, and they survived the winter that way. They were also on the front porch which was semi closed in.

Kim84 - That's funny you said that because I have been tryingh to convince my father to make her a little home.  He wants to take her to his shop (he owns his own business and has a workshop).  He thinks that all the stray cats will be using the "home."As for whether she is a "stray" I have never met a kitty like her.  She likes people, is affectionate with us (on the front porch), is nice to my dog when we bring her over.  Last night my dog was staying with my mom for a few hours and when we came to get the dog, Lola was outside and they sniffed each other.  I'd really love for her to find a nice home.  And, she's free!

free is nice, but the problem with a stray cat is the vet bills, it could have anything. and then teaching it not to claw up the furniture because it's already used to being able to do whatever it wants. and after reading up and researching cats, we wont declaw.
