My FI is obsessed with the Sandals Grande St. Lucian... is it worth it?

My FI decided to look into HM destinations and found this resort online and wants to book it. I'm opposed to big AIs in theory but have never been to one, so I guess I am just biased. What we want is somewhere luxorious with good food that's relaxing. We don't plan to take many excursions or do a lot of activities. Just hang out, laze by the beach, relax and unwind. We're looking at the penthouse oceanfront concierge room or something like that. Is that good? Help!

  • so I was there on my HM and loved it! Don't know why your view is negative..it used to be a Hyatt. We did the concierge level and had breakfast on the balcony every morning! Jody, I have seen your posts for weeks. Why aren't you using a TA. You seem so stressed and my TA was fabulous! My ta is FREE, and reduced our rate when Sandals had a better sale. Mine is Jennifer at VIP. Maybe you should reach out for help!
  • Because I'm an OCD control freak LOL! I don't know why I have a negative view of AIs either, really. Maybe it's time to get over it. My FI is super excited about this place and it looks gorgeous.
  • I am VERY OCD too. I had check lists and to do lists for the wedding that made everyone nuts, but seriously..we got a better deal with a TA and she helped us decide on the rooms. ALSO I love FREE things and we got a nice welcome gift, and our room was perfect (which I know is a gamble with Sandals)
  • I have been to Sandals twice and I can honestly say that I would not want to go there for my honeymoon.  We had a great time both times that we went but a big AI is not my idea of a honeymoon.I think it totally depends what type of traveler you are.  If you have been all over the world and stayed at some great hotels/resorts, you will not be impressed with Sandals.  The food is better than your average AI but if you are used to great restaurants at home, Sandals wont be anything special.  IMHO Sandals is not worth the price.  Unless you eat/drink a lot, you can stay at a nicer hotel that is not an AI for the same or a lower price including your meals.  If I were you, I would find a nice resort in Aruba that is having a special and go there instead.  It shouldn't be any more expensive.
  • Really depends on the people. For Dh and myself....oh hellz yes it was worth it (my review is in the link at the bottom of my siggy). The room (ocean front penthouse concierge) was amazing and very very private(it's on the back side of the resort that faces the Caribbean Ocean*or..at least ours was*). The food was good good but small portions *at least to us americans they are small portions*. The booze, terrific! Anytime you want it and as much as you want. Dh and I are not big drinkers (a couple on the weekend) but that we we sure where. I have pics of all 8 days of our HM including room pics. Let me know if you'd like to see them and I'll give you the link. HTH
  • This is exactly where I want to go on my honeymoon! My fiancee and I both have gone to Sandals Bahamian and Sandals Grande Antigua, and looking to make Sandals Grande St. Lucian our third trip.We loved the all inclusive package that Sandals has offered as well as the accomodations. When are you going? The Penthouse OceanFront Concierge Room from what I heard is outstanding. If you would like to view more pics go to tripadvisor.com, and type in the name of the resort, that way you can get reviews from real people and take a look at their photos as well!!
  • Unfortunately I was not impressed.  My review is in my bio.I stayed in the Penthouse Oceanfront Conceirge Room.  Im glad we did because the other rooms that face the beach/pool have no privacy and are loud.Good food???? good luck.... we had mostly nothing but bad experiences with food.
