Re: s/o of Breast Cancer Awareness wedding

  • I'm pretty sure Mandy's reasons have nothing to do with PP.

  • I'm making donations to NAMBLA in lieu of favors. And I'm putting each of your individual names on the donations.  Plus your addresses.

  • I'm also going to admit that I've never understood the hatred here of a theme for a wedding. I get that some themes are over the top and ridiculous, but not all are.And whothefuckcares if someone has a theme? Ditto this! It's someone else's wedding. One person's tacky is another person's beautiful. As long as the bride isn't doing anything rude, I don't see a problem.

  • I'm pretty sure we're all fully aware that NAMBLA and SGK have zero in common.Unless NAMBLA also donates money to Planned Parenthood.

  • I actually do not  mind  and actually like 'theme' weddings.  But I do give a little side-eye to 'cause' weddings.  In someway they rub me wrong.  Like some how out of the 150 people at the wedding, only a small people you know who has that certain disease are the important ones to mention.  At my wedding we had my mom who surived uterine cancer.  3 aunts breast cancer.  2 uncles colon cancer (with my grandfather dying of colon cancer).  One cousin could not attend because of pancreatic cancer (and died 2 months later).    We have people effected by heart disease, dibetes, blah, blah.I just do not understand putting focus on one disease at a  wedding when so many disease can effect your family.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • i dont like themed weddings, but i don't give two shiits if someone else has one.
  • But some families are really only affected by one disease in their close family.  And it's easy enough to group your cancers together - for example, I could easily donate the money to a cancer center in my city if my family were hit by multiple cancers.Or I could donate to the Children's hospital.   I get that people may or may not support these charities themselves, but is it really so hard to be accepting that someone else DOES support them and support the bride and groom in their decision to donate the money to that charity?Of course, I apparently need to add the disclaimer that donating to charities that advocate illegal activities is a bad, bad idea.

  • I'm pretty sure we're all fully aware that NAMBLA and SGK have zero in common.Well, I was fully implying that I think they're the same charity, only under different acronyms.

  • Um.  Kiki...Yeah.

  • I get that people believe there's already a cure that isn't being offered, but...Do you REALLY think that there's a giant international conspiracy suppressing a cancer cure?  That's a whole lot of people doing a whole lot of research in a whole lot of different countries, as well as multiple research organizations.Researchers live and die on what they discover through their research.  I doubt that anyone would be willing to suppress the fact that they participated in discovering a cure.I think it's time to put the tinfoil hat away.

  • KiKi is odd to say the least. Is she new? There are those who believe that a cure has already been found and is not being offered. I can believe this Stagey. I think this about a lot of cancers. Cure= less money to be made.

  • The chances of joining 2 families effect by only one kind of disease is very slim.  I do like a 'cancer' donation over a 'breast cancer' donation.  That way you are not picking one cancer over another, when more than likely you know someone effect by all kinds of cancer. My family is effect by heart disease just as much as cancer.  So I would never even go the cause route.

  • I'm not that new.  Sorry you think jokes are odd.

  • part of my issue with breast cancer awareness is I think it's like a 'designer charity'.  Do not get me wrong.  My grandmother died of it and I have 3 out of 4 aunts who had it.   Because of the awareness I know I need to check myself out, I get mammograms, etc.But soooo much attention and money is put into breast cancer people (women especially) forget there are other things that can kill you. Let's face it boobs are cool.

  • Am I wrong in assuming that if they find a cure for breast cancer, they'll be that much closer to finding cures for other cancers?I think most cancers are sort of alike (mutation of cells) just in different areas of the body?

  • Okay our SDA chapter is doing a BC walk soon. I feel mediocre about it now.
