Re: Libertarians and animal lovers

  • Ricksang!   How's it going, love?  I've missed you.

  • Okay. School is taking up most my time. I dread next semester. I am taking 10 classes. Is that crazy?
    image
  • How are you girls?
    image
  • Did I read that correctly, 10 classes?! I've never even heard of such a thing. All fine over here, especially thanks to El Nino and a quiet "season" - you know what I'm talking about.

  • 10 classes?!  Are they like...10 1 and 2 credit classes, or more?  Does you school do credits?  Or units?  Or what?  That's crazy!I'm doing alright.  Still unemployed and bored.  Liking my new Sara Lee Soft and Smooth whole wheat bread ;)

  • Yes 10 classes. They are trying to fit in all the classes I need to start the higher level classes next fall so that I can be on schedule with my internship in 2011. The director advised that I drop some of them if my grades start to slip.

  • How are you girls? effing amazing. the opposite of amazing is taking 10 classes. that would be hell.
  • Well if you ever need any help, I am a super good BS artist. Not sure if you have room to BS since it is a grad program, but just in case :)

  • All fine over here, especially thanks to El Nino and a quiet "season" - you know what I'm talking about.LOL! Next year is going to be a baaaad year. JK. Yes, it is 18 hours all together but I think labs should count as 3 hours each instead of 1, but they don't gah! Those are frkkin tough! I am glad you like your bread. Did the interview not go well. You had a second one, right?
    image
  • Hi Sarah! I am glad you feel amazing. I will feel amazing when I am done with school in 3 years.
    image
  • Yeah 18 credits is a lot, and I totally agree, labs should be worth  more--they're SO long.  I had a 5 hour lab that was only 1 credit.  Ridiculous. The interview went great (or so I thought).  I'm a little peeved at this point, because I wasted 4 hours total driving to both interviews, 45 minutes waiting at the first one because she was running behind, $10 in parking, and I sent out two handwritten thank you notes, and they can't even bother to return a call or email, or even send me a stupid generic letter telling me what's going on.

  • Can you call? I think that is beyond unprofessional of them.
    image
  • I did call.  Left a message on Monday, hasn't been returned.  Emailed on Wed, hasn't been returned.  I agree, it's so unprofessional, especially because they all but said I'd be getting the job.  I understand that things happen, I understand if I didn't get the job, but let me know so I can cross it off my list and stop thinking about it.

  • IDK, you might be better off NOT working for these people.
    image
  • That's what I'm thinking.  It seemed like such a great work environment when I was there, but appearances can definitely be deceiving.  Now it just sucks because there aren't any jobs left for me to even apply for.  In the past two weeks I've only found one part time job to apply for and nothing full time.  Sigh.

  • Animal Lover, checking in. :)Vally, do you work with training dogs? I volunteer at the Humane Society with the dogs and regularly work with them in a basic training class that helps them get adopted by giving them basic training skills like sit, down, checking in with their handler/owner and recall. I love it and wish I could have dogs of my own but that won't happen for a few years since we have a very territorial cat. :P

  • Bubbalub- I have volunteered with our local shelter on and off since high school. I don't do too much with training, but I enjoy learning from all the people who do :) I prefer to help with the easy stuff: bathing, walking, companionship. I think it's great that you you are a trainer- those basic commands come in handy come adoption time!

  • Oh, sorry, I didn't word that very well. I'm not actually a trainer, I am a Pet Pal. I walk the dogs, spend time in the kennels with them and take them to Weds Good Manners class where a trainer guides us in working with the dogs. I love working with them! It is calming and so rewarding. This week I was working with a dog in class that wouldn't do "down". I kept working with him on it and 20 minutes later he was doing it with only a little extra guidance! He was super smart. :)It definitely helps get some of the dogs adopted because we can tell potential adopters that they know basic commands and they won't have to start from scratch with training.
