This place is Rockin...

NOT !!!

What is everyone up to today?

I'm off  (yay), heading to the bar at 2pm for the football game, then over to our friends for our weekly Sunday cookout.  It wil be the last one for the year because we will all be way too busy next week with all the crazy tourists.

Re: This place is Rockin...

  • I think I'm decorating cookies while DH cleans off the cars.  We're not going far today!
  • I need to go out and get some things at the store, but we can't get our cars out of our neighborhood. We're hoping that the snow melts enough for us to leave by mid day.

We have plans to go to a Wake Forest basketball game tonight. It's their first ACC game, so I've been looking forward to it. I'm really crossing my fingers that we'll be able to go.
  • I'm sure your not.   Which can be good.  I liked being snowed in on a sunday... Movies, cooking, snuggling, football.  It was always fun.

It's a beautiful day here, but it normally is.  We actually like it when it rains all day.  It gives us a excuse to stay in.

  • I got enough of walking around in the snow last night so I think it's an inside day for us.  We're working on season 1 of our Lost marathon.  Later, we're gonna do some baking and make some Chex mix.
  • My snowed in, cooking / baking day was yesterday. Now we're pretty much out of all of our good food. We'll be eating rice, corn and grilled cheese until we can get out of here. Oooh. I do have eggs, so there may be some egg salad thrown into the mix somewhere.
  • cew - I see you replied to the vegetarian post on reception ideas.   I'm glad I was not the only one who thought her attitude sucked.

  • Yeah, I was kind of shocked at her attitude. I honestly don't care that she's doing a vegetarian reception, but the "deal with it" attitude is beyond ridiculous.

Another little gem that I found is on the chit chat board. She's asking what she's missing, but beyond the fact that she is missing all punctuation, capitalization, and grammar, she's given us no details. Bless her heart.
  • I'm here.  Trying to figure out when I became such a lightweight; 2 drinks at the bar had me buzzing much faster than normally, and they weren't unusually strong drinks either.  Damn new work schedule.

We're going to head to the mall I think, FI wants to check out netbooks to add to the home theatre setup so we can stream movies and music from the desktop downstairs.  We've got Inglorious Basterds to watch too.  We saw Avatar last night, and it was awesome.
  • I saw that one.  It was hard to read.  I really did not know what to say.  I do not know what you have done to know what you  are missing.

  • I'm currently downloading White Christmas to watch in a bit.  Maybe it will put me in the spirit. Hm.

Also making a list of things to buy from the store tomorrow for when our friends visit.  I'm thinking some good parmiggiano, various hams and breads and deserts from the area.  I think I'm going to make some mulled wine too.

  • This picture makes me laugh.

    ummm... that sounds great.

DH wants to go to Italy so bad, just for the food.  He does not care about anything else but the food.

  • I said something to FI about trying to learn some basic Italian before our honeymoon next fall, and he looked at me like I had 2 heads... so I will try to learn some Italian (if I'm fluent in French, how confused will I get?) and he can follow me around in ignorance :).
  • You should come here then.  It's "the place" for food.  We're near to Parma (parma ham and parmiggiano), Bologna, balsamic vinegar... the list goes on! You can't throw a stone here without hitting a restaurant. lol
  • I'm playing Mario and I'm so damn frustrated with Worlds 5-4 through 6-1, I could DIE.

  • Loopy, if you speak French, you'll be able to get along rather well. Lot's of people speak it here.

Depending on where you plan to go, you might not need to learn Italian at all. Where are you planning to visit?
  • I would love to.  We might next year (2010).

When we were in Paris last year all he did was eat.  He couldn't care less about anything else.  We have more pictures of food than anything else.   I had at least been there twice before, so I didn't 'need' to visit the normal tourist spots.

It would be the same for Italy.  I have been there before.  I will not be 'sad' not to visit the tourist spots if all he wants to do is eat.

  • I think we want to do a few days in Rome, then go up to the Lake Como, Lake majorno (sp?) area and then do a few days in Cinque Terre... that seemed like a good amount of stuff to try to do/see in 12 days or so.
  • I am a little rusty with the French cause it's been a while since I used it, but I studied for 10 years and before I stopped, I would dream in French and English.
  • I just woke up to my husband shouting "saaaaaam, SAAAAAAM!!! What is going on?!?" so I ran out of the bedroom and he was standing naked with the bathroom door open holding the shower head with water spraying everywhere. My uncle installed a new on yesterday and obviously didnt do a good job, and it never occured to my husband to turn the water off once it started spraying everywhere. He is precious.
  • My parents want us to come over (like we do every weekend), but I don't feel like going anywhere today because of the snow. We'll probably hang around and watch tv/movies all day. I am hoping I can convince DH to go outside and clean my car off. :)

  • That's... a lot of ground to cover.  It takes about 5 hours to train from Rome to your next closest destination, which would be Cinque Terre.  You'll change trains probably at least twice.  Then, another 4 or 5 hours to get to Largo Maggiore, and a couple of hours from there to Como.  Just so you know. :)  For me, I'd cut out Rome, fly into Milan and you'll be much more centrally located for the northern things you want to see.

I don't recommend trying to drive.

    That.is.AWESOME.
  • nebb - that is funny.    My DH would not think of turning off the water either.   He is so dump sometimes.

  • I know we aren't planning to drive... I don't think we want to deal with that.  We'll have to consider flying into Milan instead.  Thanks for the info on the travel time.  We're still 9 months away and nothings booked yet, so the plan can change. :)
  • At least you'll be here after the super insane rush of tourism and won't get slammed with the extra high "high season" prices.
  • True... but flights right now are still almost $1000 per person... From Cleveland or Detroit... I'm hoping they come down, but I don't know if they will.
  • Oh, they should.  I'm looking at flights right now from DTW to MXP, and they're $708. It's very dependent on day.  And it's tough for me to remember sometimes to tack an extra day of tavel as you lose time coming here. lol :)
  • Is MXP Milan?
  • And do you have a good place to go to find flight prices or will any old search engine be about the same?  I usually check Orbitz.
