September 2010 wedding

We are having our wedding on sept 25 2010.  We want to do it closer to sunset to get some great photos.  i know the sun sets aound 6:50.  When should i start my ceremony so i still have enough time to take pictures in good light but get great shots with the sunset?  i also dont want to have to rush the ceremony just to catch the sunset.  sorry if this is sort of rambling.  i'm on night'quil right now...kinda woozy lol

    how long of a ceremony are you thinking of having?you could start at 6 and be done by 6:30 and still have some time to catch the sunset, especially if you have other pics done before the ceremony

    ours was 20 min. as well and we started at 6 (not b/c of the sunset since it was June) but we were done with pics at 7:20 while the guests did cocktail hour and dinner was served at 7:30.

    It's hard to predict the exact time. Usually the best light is some where between an hour before official sunset and a 30 minutes afterward. A 6pm start should give good light for the ceremony and the photos afterwards, if it's the ceremony photos that are most important (some people care more about the early reception photos).Also, remember that the sunset should not be in the background of most photos ... either faces will be in the shadows or the background will be washed out.

    I'm getting married that same day! Congrats. Ask your photographer. Figure out where you will be having your pictures and then how long your ceremony will be. Then, if you will be traveling to the picture location and also if you will be taking pictures where your ceremony is, etc, and your photographer will be able to figure out what time you should start then. You also need to take into account the break between ceremony and reception.We would love sunset pictures and we will be taking a few just before our dinner & dancing but our main photos will be taking prior to the ceremony in the afternoon so that we don't miss any of the cocktail hour and party.
