Need Advice: Plastic or Linen?

OK I admit, I am a cheap person but I do believe in paying for quality and paying for something if it is necessary. Whatever tablecovers I decide to use, they have to black so I can sprinkle silver or glitter on the tables to mimic the effect of a starry night for our reception. I like plastic because it's very easy to clean up and I won't have the hassle of either carrying linens back home or having someone stay to pick them up but linen looks better. Also it's $1.50/tablecloth compared to $10-20/linen. Honestly I can't think of any other reason why linen is a better choice, hence the reason why I am asking for advice.

Honestly I would go for the linen.  I wouldn't want to hear the crinkle of plastic table covers at my wedding, lol.  But whatever saves you money and you're comfortable with I say go for it.  Does the venue offer table linens?  If not I would ask them if it's possible for them to rent some hopefully at a cheaper cost than 10/20 bucks a pop.  GL!

Ok. Unless u want your guests' forearms/elbows sticking to the table, go with the linen. Go ahead and pay for the quality. You're looking for a starry night effect...not the picnic look. Can u imagine the flash from the camera on plastic? U betta get that linen girl! ;)

Linen. I know it's pricey but it will look much better than the plastic. Have you thought of white linens with a black overlay.  Usually white linens are a lil cheaper and sometimes catering provides them in their fee. Also, I know this is small but linens you can steam out the creases and plastic well..you are stuck with the creases. Please go with the linen.  Cat is right, I think the linen sets the mood...and plastic is too much like family picnic/reunion.  Have you ever considered the linen look ones.  I had heard of another bride using those.  I think she bought hers from this website:  http://www.mypapershop.com/paper-tablecloths-linen.html

Ladylum - please, please go for linen. Plastic is for picnics. This is your wedding day, you deserve to have a classier look. At least go for basic white linens. Those should be affordable. GL!

Wow! Thanks for the advice ladies. lol at elbows sticking to the plastic. My venue does rent linens . . . at $10/linen and most places I went to, it didn't matter if they were black or white (black was cheaper because it didn't show stains like white does) and I was still groaning over the price. mandi, I am going to check out that website. I can deal with linen look tablecovers. Now I'll have to convince FI that instead of spending $20 for tablecovers we are going to spend closer to $200-$300.

Ladylum, if you have to go with your venue for the tablecovers, see if your venue will be willing to negotiate with you on a lower price for the linens.  Is there maybe something else that they usually offer for free that you don't need?  Maybe you can give that up to get a lower price on the linens.  But definitely, go for the linens.

Deidre, there's not much I can negotiate considering I have the venue from 9 a.m. - midnight, I can use my own caterer, they are providing the tables and chairs (the chairs are NOT the regular chairs but nice padded expensive chairs) and I am already renting the dance floor from them (venue is carpeted). But I always like to negotiate so wish me luck ladies!
