Dictating guests' attire

Some girl on my local is putting in her invitations "black attire." I asked, "Um, do you mean black tie? Because technically you shouldn't mention guest attire at all."Her response: "lol not black tie. we are not doing for fanciness but because we want it to look morbid. cemetery. Its a dark wedding. I see what your saying, but if someone decides to wear a hot pink dress we wouldn't turn them away either."And yet somehow that doesn't make it okay...FYI, I'm also technically getting married in a cemetery. A chapel that's in a rather large cemetery. And I've given 0 thought to "matching" ANYTHING with the location. Also, her wedding is next September.

Re: Dictating guests' attire

• She wants her wedding to be morbid and dark?  Weird.  It's a wedding, not a costume party.

• So she's probably a poster on the Goth Weddings board, then?
• I'm making all of my guests wear spiderman outfits and shoot out webbs as we leave the reception. And yes, I will be turning people away.
• I just imagine her grandkids looking at her wedding pictures and asking who died on their wedding day.
Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

• Is this an homage to Four Weddings and a Funeral?
• I haven't seen her on goth weddings, though I don't frequent it. But she posts on our board about 5 times a day with every little wedding related question she can think of. Only 11 months to go. Gotta get on that shiit! Her FI got mad at the Dodgers losing last night and said, "OMG, they're so gay!" Hmm. Good luck with that.

• I guess I'm mystified why anyone would want their wedding to look morbid and dark?
• Hah.  That's awesome (and by awesome I mean hideous). So I'm going to put pink attire on my invites.  Hells yea.
• Wait, we're not supposed to dictate what our guests are wearing? Because I was fully planning on putting an insert with the invitations that explained what the guest should wear, and a list of stores that carry his/her particular outfit. I plan on having guests match their tables...like a blue table, a green table, etc. I think it will look classy.
• I'm changing my official wedding site to dictate NO ATTIRE. Nudy wedding! Woooohoooo!
• As a guest, I would be confused if the invite said "black attire". I would assume it meant black tie and I would be showing up in a nice (not black) dress.
• I'm making all of my guests wear spiderman outfits and shoot out webbs as we leave the reception. And yes, I will be turning people away. How do I garner an invite to this wedding?  It's going to be the shiit! And yeah, morbid is not a feel I'd want to be going for with my wedding.  That's why I demanded everyone wear cream, but not a very light cream.  I wouldn't want people to confuse any of the guests with the bride.  I turned people away for not being in cream, and for wearing too light of a cream color.  It's not like I was asking that much and if they didn't want to meet my deamdns they obviously didn't care enough about me to be there.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

• I don't see what is wrong with this.  I'm getting married in a monastery, so I'm telling guests to wear robes.  Preferably Catholic monk robes, but if someone comes as a Buddhist monk, I won't turn them away.
• Bec- That is great! If they have clothes on will they be turned away until they strip down?
• FI's uncle informed me that he would be wearing a camouflage, that's right CAMOUFLAGE, tux to our wedding.  He was not kidding.  Fantastic.

• I'd never turn anyone away! They will, however, be forced to walk the plank into the coi pond so they'll want to shed the wet clothes and dry off. BRILLIANT, right?
• Fang - it's only respectful, you know. You can't show your knees or cleavage or anything in a monastery anyway.Carrie - keep baby pink dinner jackets on hand for your male guest who "forget" to wear pink.

• Betrothed - you already have an invite. You are my internet MOH. I have to say, though, that I'm torn between the Spiderman outfits and making everyone wear theme sweaters. I still love that idea, but I'm concerned about the heat in may. Maybe just theme vests.

• Personally Cew, I would go with theme vests. Comfort meets class, all the way.

• I win!  I say stick with the spiderman outfit.  That way the guests can decide if they want to be in a cooler outfit, or something more authentic.  Can I come as a villian?  I'll totally rock the Doc Oc outfit and I'll turn the recpetion upside down.

• Bec, just change your location to a nudist beach. Or an entire resort. Nude weekend! I mean, what's a lost deposit or two?

• Sarah -- That's a wedding?  Looks more like funeral.
• What was I thinking?  I don't want pink attire.  I want Disney attire! Actually in one of the new bride/modern bride/98% wedding dress advertisement mags they actually featured a Disney wedding.  It looked expensive and hideous.  I can't help but think that the bride or groom paid the mag for the coverage b/c seriously?  It was godawful.
• Cew- my nephew is ready for your wedding;
• Yeah Navy, it's a wedding. The bride is right behind the woman with the big red bouquet, you can just see her white. Here's another pic.
• I would probably choose to wear a hot pink dress to something like that.  All of that black would make the pink stand out that much more and it'd be stunning!
