1 bad, 1 good?

cause I need to be pitiful for a second and I also want to end on a positive note?bad: I mentioned before, but my dog dixie (she's actually H's dog, he's had her since she was a puppy, but I've "had" her for over four years) had a stroke about a month ago. she was all of a sudden really stumbly and couldn't walk and kept falling over, her eyes were doing this twitching thing, her head was cocked to one side. the vet said she'd be fine, and after a few days, she was. but now her symptoms are back, which leads me to believe that instead of a stroke, it's actually canine vestibular syndrome, aka old dog syndrome. it's basically an inner-ear problem, and it rarely relapses but it sometimes does. it's awful. yesterday, she was running around in the back yard with our other dog, and then suddenly, when I took her for a walk, she started wobbling again, and her eyes started twitching. she seems happy and isn't in pain, but still, it's heartbreaking. she was the first dog I really fell "in love" with, before her I was a cat person. and I've never had to really deal with a pet's mortality before. it almost makes me envy people who never had pets. we're going to watch her carefully in the next couple of days, and when she's more mobile we'll take her to the vet. small confession--last night, I slept on the floor right next to her for part of the night. I didn't mean to, I just wanted to pet her, but I fell asleep. how pathetic is that? I'm going to be lame and ask for vibes, or advice from vets, or both.good: I weighed myself yesterday and I lost ten pounds in the last month. whoopie. anyone else?

  • Good: I'm fully booked to sub from today until March. Bad: I have high cholesterol but enjoy eating hard boiled eggs. I should Google and make sure that's bad.
  • Well, that's a boo, yay, if I ever did hear one. Sorry about your dog, lala. I worry about my cats dying, too. yuck. But awesome on the 10 pounds! That rules!

  • Vibes for you doggie. I know what you mean about it making you almost not want to have pets (but you always know you will again). How old is she?

  • 1 bad: Friend Who Owed Me Money left a check for the remainder of what she owed on Saturday, along with a book: "500 Reasons You're My Best Friend", begging me to forgive her. I wish she had waited until after the wedding. I felt awful telling her we'd talk in a few weeks, when I know she did it now so I'd invite her to the wedding. I just can't take the drama anymore, and I wish she would get mad at me and leave me alone. Plus I still get REALLYpissed when I think about her trying to make me feel guilty for asking for my money back after almost 4yrs. 1 good: I think if I really plan the next few days expertly and not waste any time I'll have this wedding ready to roll by next Wednesday, set up on Thursday, practice on Friday, then ROCK ON on Saturday!
  • Aw, that poor dog. I have a tea cup chihuahua who is m.r and takes seizures, its the sadest thing. Bad: I am about to start a 60 hr work week starting in 1 hr 10 mins. boo :( Good: I lost 5 pounds and started going back to the gym today!
  • Oh no poor Dixie. I hope that this is nothing too serious. :( And it's totally not pathetic that you fell asleep on the floor. I'm sending all my healthy pet vibes right atcha.

  • I'm sorry about little Dixie, but am really happy for you on your weight loss.   I hope Dixie continues to have longer stretches of good days than bad and that you have far more healthy "skinny" days than not. :)Bad: I'm looking for a job because I can't stand the one that I have.Good:  Too many great people on here willing to offer their sound advice and to actually take time to help me get my resume all worked out.  I couldn't ask for more.
  • I forgot to send vibes to your dog!
  • I'm sorry Lala.  It's always hard to make health decisions when it comes to pets.  And you laying with her isn't pathetic at all.  Something to keep in mind for a decision that, hopefully, you won't have to make anytime soon: if the time comes that she needs to be put down because she's suffering too much, there are vets that will make house calls specifically for that purpose.  It is a lot less stressful on the pet if it happens at home, rather than have to endure a car ride and the vet's office.

  • lala, that is not pathetic at all.  When my boy was ill, I noticed he was on an every two hour bathroom sched after his surgery.  I set my alarm for every 90 minutes so I could be awake and lift him up and down from the bed...for two days. Good: we have the stuff all ready to be sent to the attorney for my Visa Bad: We've beenb waiting a week to see if he needs anything else from us and how much it will cost

  • Sorry about Dixie, Lala.  You're not pathetic for sleeping on the floor with Dixie.  One of my friends and her husband rescued a lab, and shortly after they got it, they found out that he had cancer.  The last night before they put him down, they slept downstairs on the floor with him b/c he was too weak to climb the stairs to their room.I hope Dixie gets better.  Seeing a pet like that is so hard.
  • bad: My FI has cancer. good: they caught it early, he's stage one.

  • Bad: DH's puppy has old dog syndrome too.  She's a 15 year-old Australian Shepherd.  Some days she's her old frisky self, and other days she sort of wanders in circles with her head tilted.  She has had two real bad spells where she could barely get up and didn't want to eat.  I think she's also got a little doggie dementia, and has to take estrogen to keep from wetting the bed.  But she's the best dog ever, and DH will be heartbroken when the day comes to put her down. Good: Daughter is close to getting her driver's license so I won't have to be taxi anymore, and she might have a lead on a job that will fit perfectly with her school schedule.

  • lala - lots of vibes.  I'm so sorry.  FI is like you - formerly an exclusive cat person, but now my Ozzie is his bff - they go the park together, he takes Oz out when he runs errands, etc.  These dogs, they do tend to just crawl in and and make a place for themselves in your life.  FI and I have talked about how scary it would be to be in your sitation.  All you can do is what you're doing - love her, take care of her, and make her feel better when you can.  Best wishes. And...Good: going to a pumpkin patch for the first time ever this weekend Bad: going oot for work starting tonight till Thurs. and I don't wanna.  Boo hoo.
  • aww, poor doggie! =(1 bad--I gained the 3lbs I lost last week within the weekend, though I always seem to fluctuate 3 lbs so who knows??1 good--I have a job interview in a week and if I like it and take it, that means normal work hours and no more weekends or holidays!

  • I'm really sorry about your dog, too, Lala.  Losing a pet is really hard, and it's even harder when you have to watch them slowly deteriorate like that.  Laying with her is a good thing, too.  I did that with my last cat before we had to put her down.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • How old is she?she'll be 15 on New Year's Day. and she's a big dog, we've been lucky to have her this long.
  • *good vibes*My cat has eye herpes, no joke. And it's a recurring infection. 90% of cats with the virus never show symptoms. 10% have an outbreak. And only a small percentage of those have recurring out breaks. Guess I'm lucky! Hopefully you can get her something to help her symptoms. I'm glad she seems to feel okay.Bad - I ate my lunch around 11. Now I'm going to be hungry long before I get home.Good - Started 30 Day Shred this morning. And I actually feel pretty good.

  • I'm so sorry, lala :(  I think it's really sweet that you slept on the floor next to her- my boss was telling me she did that when her dog was sick, so you're not alone.Good luck with everything, I hope she is happy at least :)

  • thanks for all the vibes, ladies. :)
  • Okay, stop it with the sad doggie stories, people. I'm sobbing here :(Lala, I'll be thinking about poor Dixie. I think you're a great mama for sleeping next to her. Think of how comforting that must have been for her. Bad: I can't stop crying now and I want to hug my Molly and tell her how much I love her.Good: I get to see my adorable nephew tonight for dinner. I love that kid.

  • tide, I didn't know that. I think that's what we'll end up doing, if for some reason I'm not able to find a way to make pets live as long as their owners. which, really, needs to happen.
  • That's so sad about your dog.  And no, you're not pathetic for falling asleep next to her on the floor.  I did something similar when my cat was really ill years ago.  Many vibes headed your way.Congratulations on the weight loss!  That's got to feel awesome!bad:  FI's ex is being a complete biitch right now.  It is stressing him out tremendously and there's not much I can do to help him other than be his sounding board.  He's flying back and forth twice a month for the past 3 months for his custody hearings, which is wearing on him as it is, and he doesn't need her acting up more than usual on top of it all.yay:  both of my kids had the flu last week but they both had enough energy to go back to school today.
  • Aw, Lala, I'm sending good vibes to Dixie. I've slept on the floor with my pets before, too. P2, I'm so sorry, but happy that the cancer was discovered early. Is this a new development? This is the first thread I have opened today. Lots of healthy vibes headed your way for your FI.1 Bad: I've had computer problems since yesterday morning so I've gotten fuckall done and my manager is breathing down my neck and driving me crazy.1 Good: Uh...well...Oh! I bought new pants yesterday and I'm wearing them today and feel very pretty in them. Even though they are a huge size (for me) and this is the largest I've ever been I still feel pretty today.

  • p2! I'm so sorry! I missed that completely. is there another thread with the whole story in it?
  • Poor Dixie :(  I'm sending some good vibes your way.  I don't look forward to the day I have to do all of this with my little guy. Bad: I ate TWO hot pockets at lunch today instead of one because I was so hungry.  And the NutriSystem commercial came on, as if to say "seeee..." Good: FI is going to cook dinner tonight so I can relax :)
  • Aww, lala I really hope dixie feels better soon.  I know how it is to have a sick pet.  And you are NOT pathetic at all for sleeping next to her!  I would have done the same thing!  good:  I'm going on vacation in January bad:  I've gained so much weight that I don't fit into my bathing suits
  • n/m, found it.thank god he didn't do the typical male thing, "ignore it and it'll go away." big huge vibes.
