Re: DD? Where to have the wedding?

• I was getting ready to tell her how great Iowa weddings can be!  Or not...
• I really wanted to see that battle. I just kept picturing  your balls flying all around. Talk about a teabag!
• Boo hiss. Last time I share my super awesome wedding location rule of thumb.

• That was a peculiar DD.  I didn't see anything in there worth deleting over.

• Vally, I can't believe you shared it in the first place. It sounded like that info should be kept under lock and key on a need to know basis. But that's just me spouting off about Internet safety.
• I was looking forward to someone going head to head with Kristen.  I picture her as the Church Lady from SNL.

• Dammit! And we had major Boondocks love in that post!
• Huh.  I don't get it.  Keep your balls on the ready, OOT! In any case, I love Iowa :)
• ::pumps fist at Georgia:: Why I oughta...

• In any case, I love Iowa :)Atta girl!
• Why would she DD? Now there's another mindless rambling on my part that's been taken out of my post count. Darn all these newbies not wanting me to ever get to 3,000 posts, or more!

Our Story MAJORLY UPDATED 8/6/09
Wouldn't it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong?
• Well Iowa did have Cardboard Boat Races. And some pretty good food. :-)
• Went to Luther College in Decorah.  Highway 52 is forever in my heart...
• I don't understand the Iowa hate.  Iowa is a pretty decent place to be when it isn't have 500 year floods.

• Went to Luther College in Decorah. Highway 52 is forever in my heart... Uh oh....I went to Buena Vista.  I'm sure you remember the games?!
• WTH? I left and came back within 5 minutes... What was the reason she left? Someone didnt tell her the "rule of thumb"?

• Night- you are in IC right?  H used to go to school there, I made the 4 hour trip every other weekend.  I love IC!
• Andress, I've got love for everyone except Wartburg :)
• Thanks dude.  You're the reason I've been here 2 years and still don't have a blue ball.
• Kate- I'm right with you there.  Do you live in Iowa now?
• OOT, I have total respect for you.  Really.  90% of the time I agree with you, and on the other 10%, I only comment every now and then with another viewpoint. On this issue:Sure, a bride and groom can have the wedding anywhere- bride's hometown, groom's hometown, somewhere halfway in between, DW halfway across the planet, underwater, jumping out of a plane, whatever. But the OP asked if there was a "rule of thumb" about this decision.  And I said yes, there is a "rule of thumb" or a "tradition" about this decision: Q&A: Wedding Etiquette: Must It Be in the Bride's Hometown? Q. My fiance and I live an hour and a half away from each other. He thinks our ceremony and reception should be held halfway between. My mother thinks both should happen in the bride's town even if the groom's family is paying for half. What is the tradition when the bride and groom don't live in the same area? A. It sounds like your mom is sticking to the tradition of having the wedding celebration in the bride's hometown, while your fiance is being practical.  A bride getting married in her hometown is traditional, but it's not mandatory.
• I was looking forward to someone going head to head with Kristen. I picture her as the Church Lady from SNL.You'd think, right? Read her response in this thread. I suggest you make sure you're sitting down. I'm glad I was.
• Ziti, I saw that and was pretty surprised.  Mostly because she thinks living together before marriage takes away from the "specialness" of getting married. Like if you live together before you're married, your wedding day is anticlimactic. And if that's the most liberating thing she's ever done, we probably wouldn't get along anyway.

• Ziti- shhhhh she's right there. *points up*Kidding :)

• No I don't :( I graduated in 07 and moved to the East Coast for work.  I was just there in August for a wedding though, and it always feels like home.
• Kristen,My mom & grandmother swore by E. Post and I got my very own copy just before my debutante ball.  That's a tradition in my family, btw.M was from NYC and her now H from Massachusetts.  They met at Boston College and loved it so much they planned on staying on after graduation.I, however grew up in Massachusetts and spent summers on Cape Cod so I had absolutely no problem with their choice of Cape Cod for their wedding.Almost everyone travelled and it was a wonderful wedding weekend.Etiquette is the concept of making others feel welcome and included.  HTH
• Etiquette is the concept of making others feel welcome and included.Ditto!  It's not just about having good manners, but also making people feel comfortable.

• I think my idea of deciding was fabulous. I was too busy texting DH about my coworker, and missed the ensuing excitement, I guess...More Iowa love here.....Hell, I grew up in the South - NC, GA, VA (even did a "stint" in SoFL and LA) - my family hails from NC and WV/VA (before there was a WV) and I CHOSE to move to Iowa.Because I love my boy. And, I love it here. I don't find that it's much different from the South, as far as welcome-ness and hospitality. People are very genuine. But I can't find damn NY style pizza.Just don't ask me in January how I feel about it... :)Surprisingly, I moved here on one of the worst days of the flooding last year then-FI had even evacuated his shop which is near the Raccoon River.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
• OOT - Boston IS very pretty. It would be my second choice for my wedding. I'm only having it in L.A. because I live here. But FI's parents live in MA. The wedding I'm going to on Friday is in IC. No, Cedar Falls. I think. Anyway, I've never been to Iowa, but I'm taking a red eye to Chicago and then driving 4 hours at 5am to attend an evening wedding of people I don't know. Score!

• Kristen,What is the source of your etiquette rule?If you're using the knot, Miss Manners or Sharon Nagler, you are getting bad advice.Didn't you get an etiquette book when you came out?
