Re: HCG Diet Direct

  • This was posted awhile back. No one on this board (to my knowledge) supports fad diets. We're all fans of good old fashioned diet and exercise. Do you really want to be ingesting/injecting pregnancy hormones, anyway? A little weird, if you ask me. If you want to join us in our old fashioned diet and exercise weight loss, feel free to check out the FAQs post to check out some of the ways we like to stay on track (incl. WW, daily plate, sparkpeople, 30DS, etc).

  • I'm doing the HcG now and have lost a total of 16 pounds so far in 3 weeks. I still have 2 1/2 weeks to go on the HcG. FYI...not a fad diet...but people say that when they don't know how it works. Like any other diet...it's a lifestyle change if you want to maintain results. The HcG simply allows you to go on a very-low calorie diet without having your body go into starvation mode, so you can lose the weight initially. There is limited time you can stay on that low calorie portion due to nutrition factors. Once you've completed that 1st phase...there is very specific guidelines for re-introducing foods back into your system. This is NOT an easy diet. This has pushed me to every last ounce of my willpower. I have learned how much I was an emotional eater (even though I never thought that before) Now...without being able to turn to foods...the first 2 weeks I was an emotional wreck! it forces you to take acountability for your actions, take stock of your life, and take action to change it. Like any other diet, if I go back to fast food, ice creams, brownies, etc...I will absolutely gain back everything I've lost. Just like anyone else on any other diet. However...i will say this. I am working with a cardiologist who runs a medical weight loss program in my town. I do NOT recommend anyone trying to do this without the support of their doctor. Do NOT try to order the HcG online and do it yourself. Your doc will verify doseages, checks your body composition to make sure that you are not losing muscle, only fat, can offer appetite suppressants if needed to get through the first few weeks. My doc checks my bloodwork regularly and EKG's as well. So anyone who wants to say this isn't healthy needs to do some background first. ANY diet can be misused. If the HcG diet is supervised and done properly...it has amazing results.

  • Forgot to mention...cause this came up before: Many say that it's unhealthy to take this hormone to lose weight. ??? HcG is a natural hormone produced by your body during pregnancy. However during pregnancy, your body is exposed to anywhere from 5,000 up to almost 300,000 units of the hormone daily. The HcG diet only uses 125 units (Once daily if you do injections, twice daily if you use drops.) This amount is simply enough to trick your hypothalamus into not going into starvation mode while you diet, but not even close to enough to make your body actually think it's pregnant. And again...the HcG portion of the diet is only for the 1st 40 days. (I guess because it's such a small amount of time, people think that's all there is to it and call it a "fad diet") However, there are another 6 weeks of strict maintenance guidelines beyond that. The end result: Changing eating habits, learning to recognize good fats from bad, good starches from bad, portion control, and sensible excercise. And losing weight on top of it all. Learning how to track foods and weights and what to do immediately if you start to gain any of it back.
