NWR: Mothers

Shoot, I made the mistake of watching a segment on Andrea Yates (the woman who drowned her 5 children a few years ago) and now I'm all upset. I couldn't do anything to stop the tears while I listened to her explain how she drowned each child. She was suffering from postpartum psychosis (a severe form of postpartum depression) but this woman was so cold about what she did. She showed no emotion. Sorry for bringing the board down, but sometimes I have to post when I just can't wrap my head around things.

A lot of times when people suffer from mental illness they do not show appropriate emotions. Not trying to be snarky or rude but that's why they are "labeled" mentally ill...b/c they are not and do not react as a normal person without an illness would.

No worries. I know all of the logical reasonings behind her lack of feelings. My response is purely an emotional one.

I feel u ten thousand % Blue. I'm a mother, know of postpartum issues, but still cannot BEGIN TO FATHOM drowning my kid; or hurting him in any kind of way. Mental, crazy, loose screws whatever you wanna call it...she doesn't deserve anyone's mercy IMO.

see stories like that just hurt my heart...I mean I wanna choke my boys sometimes when they get on my nerves but damnit, I've never ever even came close to actually doing such an act and I suffered from alittle P.D. after having my youngest son but I was just crying all the damn time for no reason for about 2 wks or so, then I snapped back into my old self...but ANDREA YATES, that fool right der (yep, I said it - der not there...LOL!)...was having issues and seriously I cannot sympothize (sp) with her or any other woman who killed their kids claiming P.D....I'm sorry if you think I'm being closed minded but that's just how I feel; it just seems to me that her hubby, momma, daddy, sista, sista-friend from church -- SOMEBODY could have saw that homegirl wasn't right in the head.

TOTALLY OFF TOPIC: Alf I see that calorie counter easing on up to your goal! Yes...somebody should have seen something. That's probably the only soft spot I have for her - no one was there for her. Or maybe they were. IDK the whole story. It just hurts to know those kids endured such torment at their mother's hands.

Yeah, a lot of folks dropped the ball on her treatment. They were doing everyhting that they could to get her help, but the doctors should have never discharged her from the mental ward after her second suicide attempt. She just was not ready to be back in that house.
