NWR: Which Rick Bayless Restaurant?

Has anyone been to Frontera Grill?  Topolobampo?  What did you think; worth the hype?  Which would you go to if you could choose either one?  I am familiar with both menus and both sound good to me. :)

I have never eaten at Frontera, but Topolobampo is excellent. I especially like that one person can do one tasting menu and the second person doesnt have to order the same thing - allowing them to try a different tasting (they have 3) or order ala carte.

I'm a HUGE fan of Frontera Grill, and would highly recommend it to anyone with a slightly adventurous palate. I haven't been to Topolo, but have heard that while it's great, the difference in cost between it and Frontera is huge.

I've only been to Frontera and it is excellent! I don't think you could go wrong in either restaurant!

Frontera! It's so good! Share lots of small plates so you can try everything- I love the ceviche.

I called earlier to try to make a reservation.  The soonest they could get me in for a weekend Frontera dinner was the last weekend in January!  They were able to get me in for their brunch menu in early December.  I think I'll keep it- the food will be good no matter what, I'm sure!

Love love love Frontera!! If you don't want to wait until January and have some flexibility, you can try what we did. We got in line at about 4:30 on a Saturday (the restaurant opens at 5). Once they opened the doors, the line moved quickly and we put our name in and headed to a bar down the street for about an hour. By the time we got back, they were able to seat us pretty quickly and it wasn't super early for dinner (about 6:30 I think by the time we were eating). They also have a bar in the restaurant where you can wait. Enjoy!

I've been to both, and actually went to frontera again last night! Topo is a white table cloth, great service; but much higher prices than Frontera. But excellent for a special occasion as it's a little nicer Frontera has equally excellent food but cheaper prices, no table clothes, but I still think the service is excellent. I would also recommend the ceviche!!! It's in the menu at both restaurants and so good. And their margaritas are great.

We went over the summer to Frontera Grill with a reservation.... we had to wait a month and a half- but it was great.  Just walked right in and sat down.  DH and I have tried on occasions to walk in without a reservation, but we always end up giving up.  It can be about a 2 hour wait on the weekends. Have fun!
