Reception Venues

Does anyone have any suggestions for any exceptional reception venues? My FI and I have been looking at venues all over and are starting to get discouraged because they are all smaller than they appeared online, or are just not where we can envision our wedding. We are not looking for the typical hotel ballroom wedding reception, but we are looking for the size of one of those ballrooms. We are estimating about 250 for our wedding, and we want a pretty good sized dance floor. Depending on where we find the reception, we have 2 churches in mind, Holy Family in Irving or Immaculate Conception in Denton. So we are really not tied down to a specific city either, just something that is not too far from either city. We have been to Cappella Courts, Addison Event Center, City Club, and enough hotels... Just to name a couple. We don't want to settle and have it at a hotel because it suits the size of the room we need. So your suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

My first suggestion would be to have it at a hotel because they can get you a very large dance floor that you wouldn't have to rent.  Dancefloors can be very expensive. Have you tried the Hotel Intercontinental?  Their Garden Court Ballroom is beautiful!!!!  Several girls on here are getting married at the La Cima Club and I've seen some very lovely pictures.  You could also look at Old Red, the Belo Mansioin and Union Station.  Technically you rent Union Station through the Hyatt Regency.  You could look at Winfrey Point but I'm not sure how many it will hold.  It's pretty DIY and you have to rent chairs, etc but you can bring in your caterer.  Hope this helps!

Depending on your budget, you should look into Arlington Hall at Lee Park (gorgeous historic venue!), Belo Mansion, Cityplace, Marie Gabrielle (gorgeous gardens!), Mediterreanean Villa (mixed reviews on this one), Piazza on the Village in Colleyville, Women's Museum at Fair Park. There are also some larger country club reception halls if you're open to those.

I LOVE PIazza in the Village.  If you go, don't look at the chapel.  It is gorgeous and you will want to have your whole wedding there. haha

We had our ceremony and reception at the Texas Discovery Gardens in Fair Park.  It would be big enough for you, and it's much prettier than a hotel ballroom.  It's all hardwood floors, so you don't have to rent a dance floor.  There are pictures in my married bio.

I got married and had our reception at Fairview Farms Corral Barn, which is quite large. I love, love, loved it. So much character, but it's not for everyone.

If you are looking in the Irving area you might want to check out The Movie Studios - that is where I had my wedding and it is definitely large enough for 250 people and has a great sized dance floor.  If you are interested there are pictures in my bio and vendor info on my vendor reviews page in my bio.GL!!

I second Arlington Hall at Lee Park in Dallas! A very gorgeous venue! If we could have afforded it(and found it before YWCA) I totally would have done my wedding there.

I would suggest the Gateway Club or whatever ballroom suites UNT has if you are looking for a place in Denton because everything I'm think of won't hold 250 comfortably.  Also Hubbard Hall at TWU.http://www.unt.edu/union/schedule/http://www.twu.edu/conference-services/
