s/o disney...

How come so many adults who have no kids go to Disney World? I've only been once in my life so I just don't get the draw but some people seriously love it even if they don't have kids!

I must say that I DO love disney, and went with terrell even before we had brandon.  There is a lot of adult things to do.  I also love rides and attractions like what MGM has to offer. There is a nightlife there too, with lots of free flowing alcohol :)  yet it is expensive.

But if you have no kids and some vacation time, Disney would win over like an island without thousands of kids and families around? To each his own :) I had fun when I went once, but I don't see me needing to go back -- with or without kids. But that's just me!

DH and I actually just booked a trip to Disney for this November yesterday.  We're both big kids at heart and have always loved theme parks/roller coasters etc.  Plus, I haven't been since I was a kid so I'm really excited.  Also, there are so many things to do there that aren't just for kids.  From a wedding standpoint, I think it can get a little cheesy and it's a little much.  But from a vacation standpoint - it's just a fun getaway

when was the last time you were there?hubby and i have gone every year for the past 6yrs  (except this year - our vaca was our honeymoon in jamaica)We love it there.  We have a timeshare there (partly owned w/ our friend).  There is probably as much if not more for adults to do....we go for a week but could prob spend 2 weeks there and not be bored or do the same thing twicehowever that includes Universal (2parks) and seaworld...

no - i'm not saying it would win over an island.  But my brother lives in orlando also, and i have a couple college friends there.  so when we go, we all go together. if I hadn't been there in say 4 year, I'd want to go back to do it again. It also depends on what time of year we'd be going.  But there is definitely more to do there than people perceive.  I"m more of an action type vacation person than a "lay on the beach lookin' fat in my bathing suit" type of person :) haha.

also if you go during peak times, you're going to be bombarded with a crapload of kids.  But non peak times are much quieter.  And it's actually pretty inexpensive.  We got a really great deal for 4 nights/5 days in disney (staying AT the resort) and it turned out to be way cheaper than an all-inclusive or vegas or anything else!

you cant compare a disney vaca and a island vaca - i would never do a disney vaca as a honeymoon or if we wanted to just "relax" for a week....

I used to work there so maybe I am biased, but its really a great place to take yourself out of your own element.  I loved being able to not be so serious and just have real fun.  Plus the drinks are good and the clubs are fun!  The food is amazing at  many places too.

I've never been, and have zero desire to go.

exactly cher - that's just what I meant to say, but didn't haha.  It's not to replace an island vacation.  But if I were to ONLY go on island vacations, I wouldn't be happy either.  I need to throw a curveball in there sometimes, and disney works for us. Now that we DO have kids, I might be getting sick of it! :)  We're actually going in May (Carys will only be 2 months) but I have a timeshare, and If I don't use it by May 31, I lose it, so we decided to go with it.  With a 2 month old and 2 1/2 year old, florida is about as far as I can deal with on a plane ride!

Now if Brad would come out to play he would say that you can compare Disney to and Island vacation!  Anyway, I think Disney is a lot of fun maybe even more fun for adults.

haha yea maybe I should have chosen wiser words (and not compare) I might be ripped apart! Lindz - come to disney with me in may.  I promise you'll have a blast! haha  That is if my mom comes so she can watch the kids for a night or two!  otherwise we're doing babystuff the whole time!

I love Disney and I think I have more fun when i go with friends now than I did even when I was a kid.  For me it has great memories and it is a fun way to get away from reality. For me, Disney WOULD win over an island...although, a lot of places for me beat out an island.  I get bored after a day in those types of places.  I need constant stimulation. ;)My FI had never gone until a year ago when he came with me and my family.  And he loves it and always asking when we can go back (thank goodness because if he hated it, I think I would have the cancel the wedding, hehe)  If he had it his way, we would spend our honeymoon there I think.

we went to disney after our wedding (we went on our hm a few months late) for a week and had a blast.  we went to the magic kingdom for a few hours and that wasn't much fun.  we felt too old, but everything else was so much fun!

A friend wanted to go last year (she's never been) and although it kind of sounded fun, I just couldn't bring myself to do it.  If I'm getting on a plane to Florida for a fun weekend, I'd much rather get off in Miami or Palm Beach...  But I think it just isn't my thing?

I have only been once as an adult (my parents took me 3 times as a kid) for a friend's wedding, and had a blast!  I was only there for a long weekend, but went with a bunch of friends (it was also only 1 year after college) and we had such a good time. I really wanted to go back sometime pre-motherhood, but that is not very likely at this point in time.  But, I do know people who own townhouses and such down there and go a few times a year, that is a bit excessive in my opinion, but to each is own.

FI and I have never been there together, so we've said it might be fun to do that someday soon - maybe even with friends. I kinda want to check out Epcot with him. We were tossing that around as a honeymoon idea for a while. But we're also not people who like to lay on the beach all day while we're on vacation. We like to walk around and explore and do things.

You bet!  and uppereast too!  Gotta show you guys how it's done, and that you really WOULD like it! :) Really - I think if you went with the right people/right time you honestly would have a blast.  I realize the thought of it sounds kiddie and non-adultlike at all, but if it was like that, I'd hate it too!  It's really not as long as you choose to do the right things. Like erika said - magic kingdom isn't really for adults without kids (though it's fun for a little bit since there are a few rides and things) But there is plenty of other stuff to do!

I went a ton as a kid and loved it. DH has never been there and refuses to go until we have kids. He just doesn't see the allure.  With that said, my dad lives in Florida and we go down there a lot, so if we did go to Disney it'd be an extension of a trip to visit my family.

I love Disney....but I also love island vacations as well. I guess it depends on the mood I am in vacation wise....because Disney is not relaxing. So if I know I want something faster paced and understand that I will be walking and doing things daily that is fine....but there are definitely times when I just want to relax on a beach and be catered to, which is when I will choose the island over Disney.

dana - I'd love some suggestions!  DH and I are going in 4 weeks.  Anyone else have any good restaurant suggestions (or any other fun suggestions in general)?  TIA!

a&v's menu is wonderful if you like to try different foods.  they offer a 6 (i think) course menu and there are several options for each course that you get to pick from.  i tried elk for the first time~ delic!  it is super expensive....i think our meal was almost $600 which included gratuity and wine.  men are also required to wear a jacket.  def a wonderful fine dining experience.

Megana, will the Food and Wine Festival be going on when you are there.  IMO that is the best time to go.  I love trying all the different foods and wines (esp the wines!) around epcot.  It is a lot of fun. Also, I second the 50s Prime Time Cafe and Hooptydo (sp) Review!  Everytime I have been to 50s Prime Time, they have made my mother stand in the corner with the entire restaurant yelling at her.  It is always a blast!Fultons Crab house is a really nice and tasty place to eat (if you like seafood). Now I am in the mood to talk Disney!  I am going on a huge family trip in April along with another family (friends of my parents).  Beyond excited!
