Mother is driving me nuts!!! HELP

I am getting married at the Glensheen Mansion and I am trying to find a photographer.  The coordinator of the weddings at the Glensheen gave us a list of photographers that have been there.  I looked at this one guy, BLG photography, and he offers in a package for cheap.  But I dont want to go with him anymore because I am not looking for a person that just shoots posing pics, I want a person that does more candid pics.  My mother thinks I should go with BLG because he already been to the Mansion.  Does it really matter if the photographer already been at the place or not?  I dont think it does beacause photographers always have an eye for things.Have an opinion for me?Thanks!!

We used Ben Berndt and LOVED him. He has a photojournalistic style and adds some posed pictures, too. One thing that we really liked is that he did a site tour of our church and reception place. We also went with a mansion and Ben was psyched to shoot there. He's shot at mansions before, too, so he has experience working around the smaller rooms. He's pretty reasonably priced, too. www.benberndtphotography.com

I think that sometimes it can help if the photog has been there before, but it totally isn't necessary. Like you said, photogs have an eye for things. Also, some photographers will actually go to the location and scope it out first if they've never been there before. Besides, the wedding photographs should consist mostly of people, and not as much on the setting. The lighting and stuff plays a part, but editing can do wonders! The photogs style is definitely more important that whether or not they have shot at a particular location.

Don't go with a photographer that you don't like just because they've photographed there before.  You will probably end up unhappy with your pictures if you don't like his style. Find a photographer you like, and as PP's have mentioned, see if he or she could visit the mansion if that is important to you or your mom. I would say if a photographer has been there that is a bonus, but in no way would that be (nor was it) my main critieria for choosing a photographer.

I agree with other posters, I think you should look into photographers you like (most from this area are willing to travel) and ask them what they will do to prepare, etc. Tell your mom that you are hiring a photographer because they are professional and will know what to do! You aren't paying someone who won't know a thing about lighting and other aspects! If you are looking for photog. recommendations, check out my photographer, Callie V Photography. She does both posey shots and candid, which I love because I wanted a little of both! Check out my bio for our e-pics or her blog:www.callievblog.comP.S. I love the Glensheen Mansion! I used to live in Duluth, are you going to take pics down by the canal? You have so many fun options for photos up there! :)

I agree with pps as well but if you go with someone who has never been there before, I'd tell them that you'd like to tour it with them at some point so that they're familiar with the layout, lighting, etc. Gorgeous space!!

Our photographer (Barclay Horner) automatically scopes out the sites (reception and ceremony) ahead of time if he has never been there before.  I think you're better off, and will be happier in the end, if you find a photographer whose style matches what you want.
