Drive-thru Name Change

Sorry, this is LJ-ish, but I sort of feel like squeeing :) I just managed to go to the Social Security Office AND DMV to do everything for my name change. In an hour. With a 20 minute drive to the SSA office, and a 20 minute drive back. How awesome is that? I'm officially a Vogt, by the way!

    Congratulations!  That is record time as far as getting it done.  In Indiana, you have to wait 24 hours after going to the SS office before you can go to the BMV.

    You're lucky. In MD, we have to wait for our new SS card to be mailed to us before we can go to DMV

    I thought I would have to wait also, but the DMV is right across the street from our office, so I figured I'd just go in and ask. All they needed was the marriage certificate and my old license. Way to go, Digital Nebraska :)

    I still have to go to the SSA.  My appt. is on the 9th of November, but otherwise everything else is changed.  I even got my new passport on Friday.  Yay!

    Lucky! I had to wait two hours in the Social Security Office to get my name change! I googled the office closest to my work (which is in a nice area) so I could take a long lunch to run over and I didn't realize what a rough neighborhood the SSA was in. I have never been so afraid of getting shot in broad daylight before!

    Oh, no! No getting shot :( I figured our office would be packed because it's the only one within 50 miles, and it's in a business district. Nope. I'm sorry I'm lying to you Vally. It hurts my heart :(

    Well, I can spell it, but I still don't like the way it looks :)I practiced for an hour one night. Yes, an hour. I still hate it. But, at least I have a whole sheet of notebook paper with my name scribbled on it now. :P

    Hooray "lying screen name!!" That's so awesome.  More thumbs up for the midwest!!!! Congratulations Mrs. Vogt!I'm going next week. I just got our official certified marriage certificate in the mail last week.  I'm praying half a day will do both. DMV shouldn't be long - if I can do both in one day. I need to call and find out. I was going to go Friday, but coworker had more drama in her life, so those plans went bye-bye.

    Vally, that's what I was thinking when I was doing it. So incredibly pathetic. H took the paper from me when I was done and wrote on the back "Jen + Mike = Tru Luv 4Ever. He's such a dork. I hope that's enough time Missy! Nebraska just did this change to their DLs, so you don't have to go to your county to get it done. They just mail it to your address later and give a temp one now. Which is awesome since our county DMV is only open for 4 hours on Monday and Tuesday. Gotta love living in the sticks :)

    I must be missing something here, but what is the reasoning behind some states making you wait 24 hours to go to the DMV after the Social Security Office?

    I'm not sure why they would make you wait 24 hours, unless they access info from a database and need to make sure it's updated.

    I guess that kind of makes sense.  Up here none of our ministries are really connected at all so you can jump from office to office to get it all done in one day like you did.  Even still, an hour is pretty darned impressive! :)

    I'll be sure to tell him, Vally. He luvs to have his spelling corrected :) Ours our connected either 3+2 (or 2+3, I can't remember which order it goes in!), but that's the only reason I could possibly think of. Or, maybe it has something to do with preventing fraud or identity theft.
