My dad is the same way too.  I think Chinese and Italian are the only ethnic foods he'll eat.  And he didn't even try pizza until he was in his 20s (grew up in the midwest/England).To be fair, I'm not much better.  I'm a really picky eater.

This is my favorite comfort food for the winter: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/tyler-florence/roasted-tomato-soup-recipe/index.html. Love it with grilled cheese or mac and cheese!

I think I am the most NON picky eater ever.  I thank my dad for that everyday, god rest his soul!  When we were younger, we were FORCED to at least try something.  If we didn't like it and didn't want to eat it ever again, we didn't have to.  But we were made to try everything.  Of course, my fat arse never turned down anything.  I loved it all! :)I guess Like mother like son because Brandon isn't even 2 yet, and he LOVES sushi.  Spicy Tuna is his FAVORITE.  We don't like to give it to him since he's not really supposed to, but we let him try at least, and he always wants "more, more, more!!!"

In the winter I love COMFORT food like stews, chili, home made mac & cheese last night I split pea soup with chorizo but you could use diced ham instead(my husband loves soup)  Makes about 10 cups, serving 4 or 5 1 1/2 pounds cured chorizo sliced thin1 onion, chopped1 rib of celery, chopped fine2 garlic cloves, minced1 pound split peas4 cups chicken broth4 cups water1/2 teaspoon dried thyme1 bay leaf3 carrots, halved lengthwise and sliced thin In a heavy kettle brown the chorizo over moderate heat, stirring, transfer it with slotted spoon to paper towels to drain, and pour off all but 1 tablespoon of the fat. In the fat remaining in the kettle cook the onion, the celery, and the garlic over moderately low heat, stirring, until the celery is softened, add the split peas, the broth, the water, the thyme, and the bay leaf, and simmer the mixture, covered, stirring occasionally, for 1 1/4 hours, Stir in the carrots and simmer the soup, covered for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the carrots are tender. Discard the bay leaf, season the soup with salt and pepper

My favorite thing to make is California Burritos. All my friends love them. They are pretty basic with just steak (marinated in salt, pepper, garlic & lime juice), french fries, sour cream & cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla. So yummy!

Everyone loves these, and they are figure friendly Spice Rubbed Pork Chops 1 1/2 Tbsp chili powder 1 Tbsp unpacked brown sugar 2 tsp ground cumin 1 tsp garlic powder 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce 20 oz lean boneless pork chop, four 1/2-inch thick chops 1 pound green snap beans, steamed 1/2 tsp fresh lemon juice Preheat broiler and coat broiler pan with cooking spray. In a small bowl, combine chili powder, sugar, cumin and garlic powder. Add Worcestershire sauce and stir until paste forms. Rub paste onto both sides of each pork chop, place on prepared pan and broil 4 minutes on each side until inside is no longer pink. Serve with string beans drizzled with fresh lemon juice. Note: I put these on the grill a lot, instead of the broiler. I also squeeze some lime on the chops instead of lemon. You can use this rub on anything.
