For real!? - Vent

I get a call from someone in our office downstairs, asking if they got a UPS this am. Ummmm IDK come up and look. You can even use an elevator. I check real fast, didn't see anything. She comes  up and says "ya I called about the UPS" and stares at me like I magically have it 2 mins later. We go back to the mailroom together and sure enough, there's nothing back there for her. She says "well you signed for it"I then tell her that in the passed stuff has gotten lost in the back of the truck and delivered later in the day; perhaps that has happened here."well I paid extra to get these shoes here today, and you signed for them"LISTEN UP LADY! I don't know who is getting what, on what days. Not my responsablity. I let the UPS guy in, sign for the boxes, and lock them up. What do you want me to say?sorry just had to say that here so I didn't say it to her.End rant.

  • Just another reason I wouldn't get personal packages sent to work.

  • Is she even supposed to be receiving personal packages at work?  Tell her next time to have them shipped to her house.
Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

  • FI works in the receiving dept. for a big manufacturing company and they started refusing all personal shipments. It's a waste of company time and resources.
  • This may be different, because I live in a small town, but I will have a package sent to work if a signature is required, because I can't just pick it up anytime I want, as the nearest shipping place is 50 miles away. If I were to have something delivered to work, and someone signed for something then couldn't tell me where it was, I'd be ticked. However it's a small company. Did you really sign for her package?
  • It's not like I sign for every single box. Today we got over 20 boxes. He brings them in on a dolly, puts them in a secure room only employees are allowed in, I sign and he's off. I go through them after lunch and email everyone who recieves something.

  • Sure enough. He just came back with it. NICE

  • I bet she's going to feel really stupid when you email her to let her know the guy came back with it, just like you said.  Though, she probably won't believe you and will think you hid it from her just to fuuck with her or something.

  • To her defense, do you check to ensure that you're receiving the # of boxes that UPS says that they are delivering? If you don't, it can be a huge problem.    Many companies ship with the knowledge that the product belongs to the customer once it leaves the warehouse.  Essentially meaning that they're not liable for damage in transit or for issues where the shipment shows as delivered but isn't. Sure many good businesses will reimburse you but they don't have to.If it was supplies that you were signing for, the vendor could hold you responsible and say that they're not going to ship you replacement product when the original product showed as signed.I get that she's acting like a tool but that's just food for thought to be a bit more careful.
  • Banana believe me it's a flawed system. I am the receptionist in an office of over 150 ppl. The "mail room" is as big as a closet, and my responsiblity. We are coming up on busy season and everyone is ordering tons of supplies. We used to put them in the hall ( because the mail room is too crowded and a fire hazard as it is) but stuff kept disapearing. That's why it is now kept in a secure room. Rumor has it they are looking into a bigger office with a "real" mail room but who knows. I have tried to count boxes before but to br frank our UPS guy sucks. Even the other drivers complain because he can't handle the work load and always needs help. When I have counted boxes in the past he wasn't happy and let me know about it. I have asked for another driver but no dice.   I'm frustrated and at a loss.

  • She did track it. She had the sheet. But if it's supposed to be in a group and I don't catch it when I sign for the whole batch........ ya know? It's fine. The dang shoes are here now.

  • Sorry, that really sucks for you. Totally not the same situation as my small office.
  • That does stink.   We run into similar issues here too but only now that I manage the CS dept do I see how much of a problem it can be when you sign and don't look.  And I know shipping companies count on people doing that too.
  • It's fine. People know it's flawed but no one really knows how to fix it. We always find stuff, it just may take a few days. I just feel like I get so stuck in the middle. If I count, the UPS guy gets mad. If I don't, he messes up fairly regularly. Ups Doesn't want to take us off his route because we are his "area of town", and another driver would have to go way out of their way. Even when I can count stuff, times like now (our busy season) I STILL have to put stuff in the hall because there is no room in the Mail Room. Of course it disappears. Its always employees who need it, take it, and don't tell anyone. In the end it all comes back to me. It's lose/lose for me unfortunatly. BAH!

  • I can't help but to be extremely curious as to what these shoes looked like.
  • Frankly, I'd say tough sh*t if the UPS guy gets mad.  I'd be annoyed if someone signed for something that didn't actually get delivered.  I can't imagine it takes that long to simply count to twenty and sign.

  • I would love to have you come deal with this for a week. LOVE it.

  • This kind of thing happens all the time around here.  A company said they sent us a report, and they send the reports in groups.  They said we signed for receiving the report, but how are we to know what reports were actually in that shipment?  Also, I would never check boxes before I sign.  If I did, when would I do my actual job?

  • I too would be annoyed if I tracked a package I was waiting for, saw that it was delivered and signed for, and was told by the person who signed for it that she/he didn't have it. I wouldn't sign for a delivery without checking that everything is there, just as I wouldn't sign a contract without reading it first. And I don't care if the UPS/FedEx guy gets mad that I'm responsible and care about doing my job well.Same goes for if I had sent something urgent to someone, tracked it, saw it was signed for at the front desk, but heard from the recipient that she didn't receive the package. That could cause a lot of stress and problems for me.
