I feel like my hair 'comfort zone' is just below my bra strap line. Not quite waist length. My hair was down past my waist last Christmas (I was also growing it out for the wedding) though, and I loved it even then.
Another IRL I don't get it: A math professor I used to work with has the first name of Adolph. He's 80 years old, and was born in 1931. Students give him so much shiit about his name--calling his parents racists, asking him if he's going to exterminate an entire population, etc. FFS, do they not understand a basic timeline of world events? In 1931, the name did not have such a stigma.

hahahaah! I experience this all the time with elementary age kids. The really young ones have no idea about age in general. They would likely say that I am in my 60s. The kids I teach just don't 'get' a lot of things. It makes me laugh. For instance, when I asked them where we got money to pay for things before interac cards they had no idea what a teller was, didn't know the word, didn't know you could walk into a bank to get money. Of course, the generation I teach has never been without computers.

So I thought maybe he was some chick's husband or something, then I googled him and realized these bump ladies don't even know him.

Maybe I'm about to piss off a bunch of people, but it kind of reminds me of that annoying little boy who used to write bad poetry and was always on Oprah.

The tree thing is stupid. I don't follow anything on TB, so I'm not sure what you guys are talking about, but I still think the tree sounds stupid.

Giving a potted plant instead of a floral arrangement for the funeral? Fine. A magnolia? Not cool.

Exactly! I was dying over that thread. Those people seem like they are doing all of this just to look good. Make your donation, silently remember him and be done. Don't make a big hoorah out of it.

I wish I could grow my hair that long. Mine's too thin to let grow too far past my bra.

I don't get DDs like the one in the registry post. The OP wasn't bad and neither were any of the responses. Why DD?

I hate tampons, I really do. I don't like shoving a glorified wad of cotton balls into my vagina. I know it's personal preference, but cotton balls in general creep me out like crazy. Tampons are 100 times worse for me.

My great-grandpa's name was Adolph, too. But because after the war and everything, he started going by his middle name, Orlando.

Yeah my hair had to be cut to just under my ears. From what I remember, we somehow got toothpaste in my hair and decided it would be easier to cut it out. Luckily she didn't touch my bangs.

Haha I used to have a roommate who would tell the story of how when she was 4, she cut her 2 year old sisters hair. Her punishment was that her mom cut her hair to look just like her sisters. She never cut anyones hair again, lol.

My SIL was beyond pissed last year when my niece cut her own hair to chin length. I didn't think it was that big of a deal - it was a little past her chin. So what? I understand that cutting your own hair is probably breaking a rule, fine. But my SIL was genuinely upset about the loss of the long hair. Definitely an I don't get it.

I had a similar experience. Do you remember the slime from "You cant do that on television"? Well, when i was in elementry school, they used to sell it like play-do. A friend and I were throwing it back and forth at each other and it got stuck in my hair. It took 5 HOURS to get it out. Thank God my mom didnt give up, or I would have had a bowl cut.
In Response to Re: I don't get it/we get it? : I don't think they are really becoming pop culture icons. I think they just raise awareness of the issue or do something small that has a lasting impact. Either way, it's not like they are whoring themselves out for fame. I am thinking specifically of Ryan White and what he did for HIV/AIDS. It also makes me think of Alex Scott, who started a lemonade stand to raise money for OTHER kids with her disease and ended up sparking a lot of interest in fundraising in kids of similar ages.
    Posted by ILoveMilkDuds
That's what I meant, though. Alex Scott and Ryan White did something to be inspired by, as opposed to people being inspired because this baby had a disease. Inspired to do what, exactly? I think these situations can make us more grateful for what we have, or give us pause to reflect on how we live our lives, but sometimes I think people go a little far.

I think the story may have inspired thousands because the mom was young, dedicated, and a single mom. She was tough as nails about the situation and I find that pretty inspirational.
