  hey... didnt you get the memo, we arent talking about weddings for the next few minutes. Just kidding... rawr Anyway, you need to bring your marriage cert with you to the SOS office and SS along with your new license showing your new last name.

  My first stop was the Social Security Admin - I went to the one at 21/Gratiot. You don't need the certified copy of your marriage license to change your name.  You have to wait 24 hours for their computer system to update, then you can go to the SOS office for your new license. If you're six months or less from renewing your license, you can also renew it early then. For the banks, credit cards, other accounts, etc. I copied my unofficial (not certified) copy of the license and mailed it to the processing centers. CC are extremely easy to change names on, which was a little scary.

  My CC has been a pain in my rear to change my name! I have to mail them a copy of my marriage license but then I have to mail an ORIGINAL utility bill, bank statement, or pay stub to them. Why they need an original is beyond me and why I can't just fax it to them to be done and over is also beyond me. The other thing that's annoying is what if my utility bills weren't in my name? I'm not sending you a bank statement so you can see how much money I have or a pay stub so you can see how much I make... that is none of your business! Ugh. Store CC's like old navy was super easy, just a phone call and it was done.
