When vibez aren't enough...

According to the bump, you should call on "Prayer Warriors"Is this a secret black ops delta force with a bat phone to God?  And who are these prayer warriors fighting anyway?  Are they armed with holy water and crucifixes, as well as hand grenades?Confession:  I've never understood asking strangers to pray for you or someone else.  It's weird to me.  You are making an assumption that someone you don't know not only prays, but prays the way you would them to.  Then again, I'm a bit of a skeptic, who believes there is too much beauty in the order of our universe for there NOT to be a grand designer/creator/higher being, but I'm also pretty sure he's too busy with the big stuff to really pay much attention to the day to day stuff. Now vibez, I can get behind, especially because it's proven that they work.

• probably not regular hand grenades, but definitely the holy hand grenade of antioch
• Are prayer warriors like God warriors?  Cause God warriors are ScArY.
• PRAYER WARRIORS, COME OUT TO PLAY-YAY!::bottles clinking on fingers::

• probably not regular hand grenades, but definitely the holy hand grenade of antioch One. Two. Five!

• Prayer Warriors is a megachurchy thing I don't get.I don't see vibez as any different from prayers, but that's certainly based on my belief system.  Just so you heathens know, if I say I'm giving you vibez, I'm praying for you.

• And the Lord spake, saying, 'First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three. No more. No less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then, lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.'

• I only offer vibes or thoughts.  I figure most people who ask for prayers would rather I not mess things up with Jesus by sending my stinkin' jew prayers. What I have read on the bump is people asking for 'preyers'.  Kind of changes the meaning, but hey, to each her own.

• We had a prEyer thing her for a while then it morphed to vibez. I'm glad for your Jewish prayers anytime, Nov.

• I maintain that vibezz/prayers/thoughts can be very beneficial, no matter what form they come in.

• Hey Fallin, you got 'em.  Just don't blame me when the Apostles tell you that my prayers don't count and all of a sudden you don't have enough prayers to redeem for that new liver.

• PrEyers was around here for a while and then the way of "Up and adam".I lump prayers/thoughts/vibez all into the same category, you can choose to receive them in any form you wish.
• I maintain that vibezz/prayers/thoughts can be very beneficial, no matter what form they come in.Shamon.  It's like The Secret, man. When I hear vibezzz, I expect the religious people are giving prayers and the heathens are giving positive thoughts.  Or maybe everyone is turning their office chair in the vibe-ee's general direction and shaking really hard.

• Nov, couldn't you just pray to God?  Leave Jesus out of it?sometimes I pray to God.  Just because I don't believe it doesn't mean it's not true, and if I care about someone enough, I'm willing to at least try.

• Hmmm.  Even as a Christian, I always pray to God, I think.

• When I offer vibez I actually shake. I can't believe you people don't do the same thing.I'm a big heathen, but I appreciate thoughts, preyers, and vibez in whatever form they come in. I appreciate when people are thinking of me. Unless they are thinking ill of me and praying/vibezing for bad things to happen to me.

• I only pray to Jesus in sarcasm a la Talladega Nights.
• Hmmm. Even as a Christian, I always pray to God, I think. ditto, unless it's to " Dear Sweet Baby Jesus" because that's just funny

• Little baby Jesus is my favorite Jesus.

• I like the Christmas Jesus best.

• I like my jesus rocking out in the front row of a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert and he's hammered drunk. And this brings up a point. I blame Lynyrd Skynyrd for the love of y.
• If we are to believe in prayer and/or the power of positive thinking, then it wouldn't matter how a person prays for you or your situation, only that they are focusing their thoughts and energy toward you.
• I like to imagine Jesus like a mischievous badger.

• I could (and do from time to time) pray to God.  Some of my prior comments were really more tongue-in-cheek, and I know that most sane people will take thoughts/prayers/vibes from anyone offering.  For a long time I was offering only vibes and thoughts because God was on my shiitlist and we were not on speaking terms.  I now speak to him but I rarely ask for anything because I find that his forte is probably more big-picture issues.  I don't pray to Jesus - not because he's a bad guy - he actually seems like a pretty decent guy.  I just don't know him and it would be an awkward conversation.

• I like you guys.  It's kind of a no good day at work, and you find a way to make me smile. FWIW, my vibez are a cocktail:  1 part not-quite-Christian, 1 part not-quite-Jewish, 2 parts bourbon, stirred not shaken, with a maraschino cherry.  Salud!

Ha!I will confess that I'm a very specific, small details kind of prayer.  Partly, this is because I feel like I can see results on secific point which helps me keep the faith so to speak.
image
• that's very interesting to me, Fallin.  so do you pray more "help me to know/understand/determine" etc. or for some specific thing/event/person?  I guess what I'm wondering is if you feel like your specific points have been answered by prayer because of a feeling that you get inside or because of something that happens externally?honestly, I could probably take a ride on God's surfboard if I felt like I could feel/see things happening from Him.  I know that's not faith and that's not how it works, but there you go.

• When I offer vibez I actually shake. I can't believe you people don't do the same thing.I stick my hands out jazz-hands style and kind of flap them forward like wings.  That's me vibez'in.Even when I believed as a teen and youngster, I never prayed for myself or people I knew.  I always thought it seemed kind of self-centered.  Praying for strangers (starving people, homeless people, disaster victims) seemed altruistic and acceptable.

• Both. I sometimes pray for wisdom or discernment or confidence for certain points. However, a sort of spiritual mentor once told me to pray boldly and I do.  As an example that comes to mind, my H was really frustrated last week with a prof's lack of returning his emails, I (and we) prayed that the prof would get back to him today (that day).  He did.  Coincidence?  Sure, maybe.  But I see a lot of "coincidences" in response to my specific little prayer and that helps my be faithful in praying for big issues that the results are harder to see (at least until I have the benefit of hindsight to say, ah that was what was happening there).
