Hey ladies! Can I please be talked down a bit? I just bought a new computer and the dollar amount is freaking me way out!
My old laptop, the 7-year-old iBook, needs replacing. It's not as fast as it used to be, and it's old enough that it doesn't meet the minimum requirements for Netflix to stream on. I need something that works faster and is a little more reliable for work, since I do work from home about half the time. The battery/charge situation has been acting funny, and I'm thinking buying a new battery will fix it (you're supposed to replace the battery every 2-3 years I think, and I still have my original). However, that won't fix the fact that I'm just plain out of date, even if this little guy still does get the job done in terms of browsing.
I wanted another Mac for sure--I've had this one a long time and have been very happy with it, especially with all the free tech support in the Apple stores.
I have been wanting to upgrade for about a year now, and didn't think I'd get approved for financing, which was the only thing holding me back on pulling the trigger. The other day, I was telling my boss this. The conversation started because he'd told me he really preferred I use Firefox instead of Safari, since the booking system we use is intended for Firefox. I told him I was kind of leery of downloading another browser. Last time I tried, it ran sooooooooo much slower than Safari.
Remembering this, today, on a whim, I decided to re-apply for financing, and got approved. I also got $100 off because I still have an affiliation with a university, so, boom, educational discount.
So...I pulled the trigger. I talked it over with BF, and he's okay with my contribution to rent and utilities remaining the same for awhile (he owns the house, bought it before he met me) so that I can pay this thing off during the one-year interest-free promo period. I'll have to be careful, but I can swing it. Plus, once I get all my files transferred, I can probably sell the iBook on eBay for around $200 and put the money toward the card balance, so that'll help.
Only thing is, MacRumors says a new MacBook Pro will come out soon-ish, and I'm worrying that I should have waited to see what the new model was like. On the other hand, I really did need to upgrade...
Please, someone, tell me to stop freaking out and just be excited and happy about a new laptop being on its way to me!
CN: I financed a new lappy today because the old one wasn't fast enough and I needed something more reliable to work from home on. I'm freaking out a little over the dollar amount and the fact that the new MacBook might come out soon and be better.
Re: Major Purchase, Minor Freakout - CN at bottom :)
[QUOTE]Stop freaking out! No matter when you purchase from Apple, something newer and "better" will always come out. So be happy with your pretty new MacBook (I love mine) and skip through the happy Apple forest at being able to upgrade! Yay for an upgrade! And now, a Youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nr8hPnZfMU&ob=av2e

THIS! I bought a macbook a few years ago and I love it. Something better came out within a few months and I was thinking "UGHHHH WHY DIDN'T I WAIT!" But then I remembered I desperately needed a laptop and I really love my Macbook (even years later!)

Whenever I make big purchases I just tell myself that once I actually have the item I bought I will be happy I bought it and won't regret anything. Have you ever bought something and a month later thought "I really wish I didn't buy that!". Well, maybe. But I don't think you'll feel like that with your laptop.
If they do end up coming out with a new laptop, then buy that! You could probably sell the one you just bought for a pretty penny, especially since it's new!
Have fun with your new computer
[QUOTE]Don't worry about it. You'll go broke trying to keep up with (Apple's) new shiit.

[QUOTE]Lilphillips--OMG. I hadn't seen that video before. Thank you--now I will forever see my new laptop as a sexy Beyonce coming out of the pool wearing an elaborate gold swimsuit. My old iBook is named Blanche...I may have to name the new one Beyonce now. LOL.

Blanche...and Beyonce. I feel like that's a perfect Upgrade laptop name!

Still here and still fabulous!
You sure waited long enough, and now you need an upgrade especially if it is work related.
BUT I know you're going to be like me and once you get your hands on it, and play with it you are going to LOVE it. I can't wait to take the camera out this weekend camping and take some photos.

On a side note, I had the same thought that I would sell my old lil mac from circa 2004. No luck. Not one offer above $50. So here it sits, on my desk, as my "backup" computer.

[QUOTE]Thanks, y'all. I'm calming down a little...especially now that I have named the new one Beyonce. :) Lyn, are you enjoying your Nikon? I've been thinking about taking a photography class sometime. I'm the worst photographer and would like to be better.

marley I missed my Nikon, my EX gave me one for Christmas and when we broke up he took it, the a$$ clown had the audacity to come to my new place and demanded it from me. I gave it to him cause I didn't want him to cause a scene. Ever since then I could never justify getting another one on my own. So I got to borrow a DSLR from a friend once but then had to resort to getting a point and shoot camera which in the end didn't give me the photo quality I wanted. So when I was clearing out the garages and selling motorcycle gear that I didn't need anymore the money I made from the sales was either going to buy me a new Asus tablet or a DSLR. The DSLR was more expensive but the camera was going to get the most use out of. I already have a macbook pro and a lap top. Two lap tops and a tablet seemed excessive.
I was thinking of taking a summer photography class, but for me it trial and error and messing with the shooting options to see what the camera can do. I need practice before my big trip in November.
I hope you're enjoying your apple. I love my macbook pro but I'm so used to PC.
