    It's not absolutely necessary, but if you do want to take something along, a nice bottle of wine or restaurant gift card would make a good present. :)

    I would usually give a present at an engagement party.  How big would depend on how close I was to the couple.

    Your bio says you life in Long Island, so yes.Engagment parties are weird that way as it really depends on your area.  Northwest, no.  Mid america, not so much, NY & NJ, absolutely.They really should be just small gifts though.  A nice picture frame, a wedding planner, candles, plant, the hostess gift sort of stuff.

    Depends on your crowd. In my area (friends and family), yes we give gifts. But they're not the small ones OOT referenced -- we give registry gifts (typically china, silver, or crystal). FWIW, we give the same gift for an engagement whether there's a party or not.
