To anyone who jumps on a newbie for introducing herself: I think the whole "introductions are frowned upon here" and "if you'd lurked enough you'd know that we don't like intros" is a bunch of crap. That "rule" only ever comes up when someone makes an introduction, so if the newbie missed it, how would she know?

Wow holy crap I guess I'm glad I logged in this morning. It is amusing to see my name thrown in sporadically in the midst of this madness.Kati seems nice. She's getting married on a helicopter pad, which probably ain't cheap, but she did tell her mom she wasn't comfortable with her putting money on CCs for her wedding. So her mom borrowed it from relatives. It's her mom's financial decision, not her's. If she insisted she needed x-amount of money to have a wedding on a helicopter pad, no matter how her mom came up with it, I'd be judgy. That doesn't seem to be the case, but I could be wrong.Thank you msmery, this is all true (well maybe except the part about me being nice haha). I would have been happy to run off to Vegas with FI but he was worried we would both look back and regret that so we are having a traditional wedding. The helicopter pad is just where the hotel performs their weddings, it is no more expensive than any other hotel wedding. I got into some credit card debt (nowhere near $30K though) this past year since FI was out of work for A YEAR and I've been supporting both of us. My mom had the money on hand and paid it off, and I've been paying her back monthly ever since versus paying the high interest rate. It is very important to her to host my wedding, but since her parents gave her younger siblings money for their wedding and didn't help with hers they offered her $15K to help pay for mine. Since my brother is awesome and makes a ridiculous amount of money at age 23, he also told her he wanted to help. Judge away, just have the facts straight. I have the utmost respect for anyone who can afford to pay for their own wedding, but I am fortunate enough to have a wonderful family who wants to help us with mine since I am not currently in the position to be able to afford it on my own.

Kati-then that means your mother is NOT borrowing money from your gparents and your bro. They are contributing to your event as a gift. Not the same thing as borrowing because she can't cover the costs herself. If there is no borrowing then I don't see a problem with accepting gifts from your family.
