Shelf life for candy

How long do you think packaged candy would last? I am thinking of getting the Halloween clearance candy for OOT bags and favors. My wedding's on April 10, the week after Easter, so I suppose it'd be better to just wait for Easter clearance candy. But the Halloween M&Ms contain green and black candies (our colors) and that would be cool for favors I think. Would they last until April if kept in a cool dark place?

is there an expiration date? You could always keep them, and a week or two before hand try them. If they're no good you can get new stuff

a lot of candy will have a Best Use date on them, but typically it is ~ 2 years from when it is made, provided it is kept in a stable temp enviornment. Whatever you do, dont freeze or put chocolate in a fridge, as it will "bloom" and look moldy.

Thanks! The advice is really helpful.I was actually just at Stop n' Shop and went to the Halloween aisle to look for clearance candy ... it was all gone and workers were shelving the CHRISTMAS candy already. WTF, can't we get through Thanksgiving first?!?!?

Nope. Don't you know November 1 is the start of the Christmas season!? Geez, thanksgiving doesn't even count anymore!!

Actually, I was just in the Christmas Tree Store and they had a lot of Thanksgiving decorations out. Didn't pay much attention to candy, but I would be hesitant to buy candy/food from there anyway.

I would not do it. MH used to work for shoprite and says that whatever they don't sell goes in the back and put on the shelves the following year. You have no idea how long that candy has been put back out for. He will never buy holiday candy.
