Men changing names

I'm debating what to do with our names.  Here are the three options I'm considering:1) Keep my name (ex. Jane Marie Smith)2) Take his name (ex. Jane Marie Doe)3) Take his name and make my last name BOTH of our middle names (ex. Jane Smith Doe and John Smith Doe)I'm debating more between #2 and 3, but I haven't completely decided.  Anyone else change their middle name?  Any guys do that?I was hoping to get any idea of how hard it is for guys to change their names.  I've heard it's less automatic than for women.  TIA

Not sure this is what you are asking, but my FI and I are combining both out last names. We both have 7 letters in our last names with the 4th letter (in the middle) being an "a" for both. So we are taking his first 3 letters, the "a", then my last 3 letter to create a brand new name. We are very excited about it! And yes, this means both me and him will have to go through the name changing process...but at least we will be doing it together!

I currently don't have a middle name, so I am making my maiden name my middle name, and taking FI's last name. You could do the same, and your FI could just keep his name the way it is (which wasn't one of your options).

You should check with your local county officials.  I've heard of knotties having a hard time changing their names if it's not a fairly traditonal way.  Otherwise, I'm not much help, as I took DH last name.  I will say that changing your name is a pain in the butt, and it would be harder for two to change than one.  For instance, the time between getting married and having your new drivers license in hand is over a month (up to a month for the marriage cert to come in the mail, then up to a month for the DL to come in the mail).  During that time, your ID never matches any of your other cards.  Yes, you have the paper receipt for it, but it's still a pain.
