Re: WPBP of the evening

  • I don't think balloons and weddings belong in the same sentence. Prom, maybe, but not weddings. Not that I can recall. We went to a lot of weddings in the 80s that I don't really remember. There were probably balloons at some of them. Halloween rocks. My friend had a redneck themed party, so there were like 50 people at her house dressed up in redneck garb. I live in Georgia, and this wasn't much of a stretch for some people. It was fun to figure out what clothes people normally wore, and what they owned just for the costume, and what accents were real and which were made up. I have no idea how to post pics, but I wore a white wife beater with with a black bra and someone drew sharpie tattoos all over me.
  • Not a fan, usually.I haven't, but I've seen a couple on Offbeat Bride that used balloons that actually looked kind of nice.  The weddings tended toward a more loose and fun vibe, so the balloons kind of worked.I didn't do anything for Halloween this year.  We stayed in, ate Taco Bell, and watched Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, and I baked.  It was nice getting to spend a quiet evening together.  Hopefully we'll have fun plans for Halloween next year, it was kind of weird not to get dressed up at all.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

  • How do you feel about balloons at weddings? Not a fan of balloons at weddings...I didn't even want bubbles at mine because I thought they were a little cheesy but they're way better then balloons! Have you ever been to a wedding with balloons? No. I'm pretty sure I would remember that. How was your halloween? Boring. We're in a new house and were hoping for some trick-or-treaters but never had any so we just sat at home and watched tv. Post your costume if you can... Didn't even have one this year - how sad is that?!
  • I think that balloons are generally a bad idea, but I've seen a few pics where they worked well.I can't remember. Pretty good, we went to our friends' house, but got a flat tire on the way home.No pics. We went super half-assed this year and just wore our hockey jerseys and painted on black eyes, and black out a couple of teeth.

  • Balloons don't particularly offend me; I think they're festive. But they're also kind of juvenile. I wouldn't judge if I saw them and if they went with the whole picture (I saw one carnival-themed wedding that was AWESOME and oddly not cheesy, and balloons were fitting, of course) but I wouldn't do 'em. No. It was great! We had the party, and the murder was a success. Picking the best costume was tough, but it went to a "killer bee" that was hilarious. The crappy thing was VERY few trick-or-treaters. I love trick-or-treaters, and we got about 5 kids & 10 teens. That's it! But as they were leaving, I had my friends ransack our trick-or-treat bowl & help themselves to candy, so I'm not left with TOO much. My sig is the vampire face I did for myself. Didn't get a full-body costume shot this year. But Friday I'm getting dressed as a pirate for another Halloween event, so I'll post that one.
  • Oh, Leah, as a face painter the "sharpie tattoos" pains me. LOL Speaking of which, I had 3 more FP customers on Halloween, pix in Halloween bio & blog.
  • But it was redneck! And it pained me when I fell asleep on my white sheets with them.
  • No fair making me snort, Retread. Oh, Leah... not permanent on you but permanent on the sheets, I imagine? Yikes. Y'know... I could've given you the name of someone near you who could do tats in washable makeup. :P
  • How do you feel about balloons at weddings? They remind me of the days of pale blazers with the sleeves scrunched up that you wear with a fluorescent t shirt, Ace of Base and the 'fashionable' crushed velvet dresses I owned. Have you ever been to a wedding with balloons? Yeah, my cousin had them at his wedding to his first wife in 1994.  It was a HUGE archway of them!  The BMs were also in the stereotypical gowns with the poofy sleeves too.  How was your halloween?  Fantastic!!  I was Julia Child and we went to Astoria for my friend's 30th birthday party.
  • Bleach got it out :). Next year I will ask you. Sooner or later I'm going t have to do a costume that doesn't suck.
  • I JUST realized that I made this post about balloons and my costume was all about balloons too.

  • I give up on your costume. You're a brownie? Or a girl scout? I know I'm going to feel stupid when someone gets it.

  • I thought the balloon connection was intentional?  Way to shatter my illusions there, stina.I picked up on the Up costume right away, because one of my friends went as the kid.  I hate to say that his costume was better, but he is a chunky Korean.  He kind of had an edge on you.  Yours were still pretty awesome, though.

  • Gah, Aerin, shatter my dreams! I am only HALF asian. Thanks for reminding me that I don't belong ANYWHERE!I saw 2 other people dressed up like me, but none of them had the old man with them. And I MADE our costumes, unlike the other 2. We also had balloons which was another step up! Damn, why couldn't I be FAT!?

  • Oh, the balloons totally sell it.  Like I said, I made the connection right away. You're just too hot.  Next year you'll just have to pick a hotter character to dress as.

  • How do you feel about balloons at weddings? I don't like. Its just too school dance. Have you ever been to a wedding with balloons? No I can honestly say I havent so I might be prejudging on the question above. But then again I hate the noise they make when they pop so no I don't like. How was your halloween? • Aerin, we wanted to be transformable transformers this year, but since the wedding was pretty close to halloween, we decided to do an easier one. Next year, we may go back to geekdom and do Link and Zelda....

  • Fun! But I haven't seen Up yet... it's on my Blockbuster queue.
  • I hate them. My cousin's wedding was all balloons.  She put it all together in less than 3 weeks and had no decorations besides balloons.  Balloon arches, balloons on chairs, balloons on the dance floor, balloons...balloons...balloons.  It was horrible.Halloween was ok, didn't know anyone at the party.  We kind of stood around like losers most of the night.no pics with me, I was tagged in some on facebook.
  • Oh, and I was little red riding hood.  DH was the lumberjack.
  • I agree with PPs - balloons are far too prom.  Plus, my MOH is deathly afraid of balloons - so that might be a buzz kill.
