Questions to ask your DJ?

Other than the price and hours, and a sample CD, what other questions do I ask my DJ?  I am not a music person, FI is, and I just don't feel like I have a grasp on this last big thing I have to!!!

I'm not a music person either, but the overall personality of the DJ company was pretty important to me. I recommend asking questions about their technique to get people on the dance floor.

I would say the most important thing is personality. A DJ can really make or break a reception. That said, I found it really helps to meet a DJ in person and make sure you click with them. I thought for sure I would go with one DJ company until I met the owner who would be at my event. We did not jive as much as I thought we would. Meanwhile, the guy at another company that I might have otherwise overlooked had I not met with him in person was perfect for us (and our guests). Speaking of guests, it also doesn't hurt to keep them in mind too when considering the DJ's personality. Good taste in music is important, but personality is the clencher. The first guy had very good taste in music. But I think our reception would have been a dud had we gone with him. I'd also ask about how they envision the reception to run. For example: Some have a set-in-stone schedule of events and timeline that might not flow with what you envision. And they might not be accommodating to changes. Also, the ADJA recommends these: http://www.adja.org/general/djHiringTips.asp Some are more helpful than others. But there are a lot of sketchy DJ companies out there. I would definitely ask about backup equipment. Believe it or not, there are some DJ companies out there that don't have this.

i dont know if you have booked your dj yet, but you can try Windy City Mix and they have a FAQ section which answered alot of my questions.  We booked them for our wedding and are very impressed by their knowledge, personality and most definetly price!  Check them out or give them a call!  Good luck!
