Flowers

DIY Flowers?

I am weighing the idea of doing the flowers myself (with the help of my wedding party of course).  I found a website that delivers fresh flowers for a lot cheaper than if I hire a florist to do everything.  Our arrangements and bouquets aren't anything dramatic at all, so I really think this might be the best option since we are on such a tight budget.  Anybody else doing this, or at least considering it?

I am also considering doing my flowers. I will only have 3 bouq, 3 bouts, and some table arrangments. nothing fancy since we are doing garden reception anyway. the only thing that makes me think twice, when would i make time to do them so that i'm not stressing "last"minute. Also storing them? What kind of flowers are you thinking of using? I'm leaning towards dahlias or gerbera daisies w/ green mums.

Simple, DIY flowers will save you a TON of money. They aren't really "hard" to do, but they are time consuming, and it takes a little practice. So if you've never done flowers, get someone with some experience to teach you, to help you with the wedding flowers, or practice several times in advance, with cheaper flowers. And find out the right tools and supplies to use, and study up on the "construction" process. If you can keep them cool, and the stems in water, most flowers can be done a day or two in advance.

I am thinking of gerbera daisies.  I want roses, but from what I read, they don't do very well in extreme cold or hot weather - and considering I live in Southeast Texas, it's hot most of the year, lol.  I haven't really decided for sure yet though.  I visited a few wesbites today to help give me an idea of pricing for different types of flowers and all.  But, we will see :)

I am thinking of doing them too. We (the bridal party) arranged the silk flowers for my best friends wedding, and I think I can do some very simple things with real flowers...not saying silk and real are anything alike. What website did you find your flowers on? I am looking at fiftyflowes.com They have some nice DIY options and most of the reviews seem to be pretty good unless you want perfectly white floewrs. Good Luck!

I also went the DIY route for all of my bouquets and centerpieces using gerberas.  Gerberas can be a little tricky because you have to wire the heads to prevent them from drooping (link to instructions in the planning section of my bio), but if you keep them in water up until your ceremony (or photos, if you're doing them beforehand), they should be fine.  DIY can be time consuming, but I thought it was well worth the money saved.  I would just recommend picking up some flowers from your local grocery store beforehand and doing a few trials runs so you have an idea of how it's done and how they will turn out.  Here's the review I posted after my wedding, and I have a few more pro pics in the "Details for Knotties" section of my bio now: http://talk.theknot.com/boards/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=56407949&forumid=28&MsdVisit=1I'm not on the Knot as often as I used to be, but feel free to email me at jenn248 at gmail if you have any questions.

I'm going to do my own. I'm doing the centerpieces in real flowers, but I'm toying with the idea of using fake flowers for the bouquets, that way, I can do them in advance and I don't have to worry about them the day of or anything. I'm looking at BridesNBlooms.com I think to order the fresh flowers.

We bought our flowers at Costco and arranged the flowers ourselves (with the family's help).  Costco was nice because we were able to assess the quality beforehand and still get wholesale-type prices.  What have people's experiences been with buying wholesale flowers online?Sites like http://www.fiftyflowers.com, http://www.morethanabunch.com, and http://www.bloomsinabox.com seem to have decent prices.  I just would be worried about quality and not being able to see the flowers beforehand.  Thoughts?
