Poll: Best Album of All Time

I just got the new Paramore album and I've been listening to it on repeat for like a week now.  It got me thinking about some of the better albums I like.  So for the poll, what do you think is the best album of all time?Mine - Tool -Aenima I can't say the word album with out saying, "I'll take anal bum covers for $500 Alex"

Re: Poll: Best Album of All Time

  • I think I have too many to just say one, but when I bought John Mayer's "Continuum" album, I couldn't stop listening to it for a very, very long time.
  • I have a top 5 or so.NIN - Downward SpiralHole - Live Through ThisGNR - Appetite for DestructionCounting Crows - August and Everything AfterThe fifth rotates quite a bit. Either Fleetwood Mac - Rumors or Meatloaf - Bat out of Hell or some other kind of 70s rock album, just for variety. Yeah, I know.

  • Oh, and some hold up better than others. The ones I mentioned are the ones I listen to still, years later. Jagged Little Pill is great, but I made myself sick of it, so I still can't really listen to it. Same with the first Jason Mraz album.

  • msmerymac - I had a friend in HS that would ONLY wear NIN tee shirts.  He had at least a dozen or two of them.  I'd say I owe my interest in NIN to him for sure.

  • Michael Jackson--Thriller Beatles--Rubber Soul or Revolver Lauryn Hill--The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill U2--Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby Bob Marley--LegendIf I pick one, I go with Thriller.
  • Whoa Beatles girl, I just read yours.  Great minds think alike :)
  • I knew a kid in 3rd grade who would wear GnR shirts all the time. He had an older brother who was a musician. I thought he was cool. I wonder what happened to him...The problem with picking a Beatles album is that they're all sort of different. Like, no shiit, but to explain - there's a very definite progression in their music from teen pop-rock through psychedelic through stripped down rock. There's definitely something for everyone in there, hence their popularity, and almost all of their albums are very good.

  • Ooh, moneypenny, I just got a cold shiver and I liked it. :) The rest of your list rocks, btw.Msmery - ITA about the Beatles. For me, my favorites change, and depend on what kind of mood I'm in for listening, like excellent hook-filled pop (A Hard Day's Night) or more hard and/or acoustic (White Album) or super-produced (Abbey Road). It's like choosing between your children! Only much less dramatic.

  • Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti The Who - Who's Next Metallica - Master of Puppets
    image
  • Paul Simon - Graceland
  • My favourite is probably prefuse73's 'Surrounded by Silence'. Although I don't listen to them much anymore, I do agree that NIN's downward spiral and Tool's Aenima are quite fantastic. I also would vote for Radiohead's OK Computer, and Plaid's album Spokes.
  • oh! and yes: though far from my favourite bands, Metallica and Rage Against the Machine have had some amazing albums. AND if we're also talking old classics, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits and The Police make my list, too.
  • Holy crap I was totally joking with my first answer and then got caught up in fische's wall post, which led me to the FFF hilarity, and I forgot to come back and correct my smartassedness! Ace of Base is definitely NOT the best album of all time! Ha! I have to go with the Beatles love. Any and all of it.
  • Prince-The hits and the B sides.  Yeah, I know, not fair because it's a three album collection but if someone said I had to pull one thing out, that would be it.If I had to pick a non-collection album of Prince's it would have to be Purple Rain although I have much love for Sign o' the Times because my favorite song of all time is on there:  Adore.

  • I'm late but I have to chime in.S&M is an awesome album. Pet Sounds was a good choice too, and any album by pink floyd or the beatles could be listed.I'd also include Springsteen's Born to Run.If you're interested, Pitchfork Media (indie music site) lists the top 100 albums of the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000-2004. Worth a look. Here's a link to the beginning of the 2000-2004 feature: http://pitchfork.com/features/staff-lists/5956-the-top-100-albums-of-2000-04-part-one/
