Re: ? for Moms and Moms to Be

  • Re: migraines. My mom had a spinal migraine after she had me and was in the hospital for over a week (keep in mind this was 1979, I'm sure they'd shoo her out after a day or 2 now) and that is why I was a formula-fed baby. Oh the horror.

  • A girl from my local went into labor on Friday and didn't deliver until Monday afternoon.

  • hi robey, nice to see ya! its been a while.anywho, im pretty sure i will want a c section based on the size of our heads.and i am scared shiitless of needles but i will- no doubt about it- be asking for any and all drugs possible, im guessing. because a vaganus seems more painful than a shot.also, i will have no such birth plan except music, preferably reggae, blasting in my ears.

  • The epidural was painless for me and a-fucckking-mazing.  I'd do that shiite on the weekends if my H was an anthesiologist.  I have residual pain in my back where it was though.  It feels like a perma-bruise.  I had to lay on my side because of Grant's heartrate and it all flowed to one side and was completely paralysed on that side.
  • I also had the almost complete paralysis of my left leg because of how I had to lie during labor.  My leg flopped off the bed every time the nurse let it go between pushes.
  • reading these makes me not want to have the baby I already had nevermind another one...  Good grief!!
  • Every time I get the baby bug a post like this comes along and convinces me to stick to our plan and wait a bit so thanks for that.I'm a huge wuss when it comes to pain so I'm with whoever said you should never turn down legal drugs when they are offered. If I hadn't had a huge needle to my spine twice already for my back problems, I'd agree that it sounds scary but the results were glorious.
I'm pretty sure it's pronounced your mom's a moron and if you didn't have your name legally changed by the age of 22, so are you. Unless you're from another continent. -Groomz
  • The labor and delivery is relatively easy peasy compared to the first few weeks and months. I'm not even giving it a worry this time around. And toddlerhood is tough, especially when they are sick and grouchy. What I wouldn't give to just be able to shove a boob in this kid's mouth today to settle her down.

  • No way. I practically had a 1950's birth where you're totally drugged and then they just hand you a baby. It was great. I'd do it exactly the same way if I was ever going to do it again...which I'm not. Drugs, drugs, glorious drugs. Staydol (sp?), then epidural, ambien, then baby.
  • ambien makes me hallucinate all kinds of weird freaky shiit and then go comatose, there's no way I could birth a baby while on that
  • TSD, you just reaffirmed it all for me.  Thank you, I want what you had, now if you can teach me how to pose for pictures I will be all set!
  • I would never have planned a C-section unless I had some serious medical reason. That's some rough stuff, I am a baby when it comes to pain and the friends of mine who have had it had a tough recovery and/or now have had hernias that they've had to have surgery on. Not knocking anyone who does it or has done it, just not for me. EAB- my stuff down there was tore up for a few weeks after, but the actual birthing part wasn't as awful as I thought. I was yelling at the nurse and B that I wasn't having a baby, that I had to take a sh*t. Yet, it totally WAS the baby, and NO sh*t. But, i was convinced I was actually crapping. But, the drugs were great and my doc is a huge drug pusher. I came in at 11a about 3 hours after my water broke (secret to good pics after birth- shower/make-up/hair done once water breaks). Got on staydol right away, epi sometime during that- I have no idea when that happened. Didn't push till around 2:30-3a and he was out by 3a on the dot. Drugged for HOURS.
  • Not that you'll come back to this TSD, but I just wanted to clarify.  I didn't have an unnecessary c/s.  There were a couple of reasons why we planned it.  I am so glad we did because once they got in there, they saw that 1. he had the cord around his neck twice, and 2. he never would have dropped and it would have resulted in an emergency c/s.I realize I don't need to defend my decision here, but I just wanted that out there.
  • I still get pains in the epidural spot if I do overhead presses at the gym My only worked partially and I am oh so glad I had it.   Buddy was dragged out of me with salad tongs.

  • My coworkers mom's epidural worked in reverse. It froze her from the waist up.
  • Vinny- You're right. No need to defend. Here in NJ, it's very common to schedule just for the hell of it- because you want the baby on the weekend, or whatever. NJ has a very high C-S rate.
