Something Italian. I hate that my name is not Italian at all. I am marrying a guy named Simeraldo and will have kids with Guido names and I will be t he odd one out. I can see it now Merry Christmas from Simeraldo, Dana, Angela and Dominick. HATE IT!
When I was little I wanted to be Tiffany so that I could do a swirly thing with the Y. Since my name is Tammie, I always wanted the Y. But I've come to grips with it now.
My real name is Katie and I don't care for it really. I feel like it's one of those names that is good for a kid but not a professional adult. It just doesn't "fit" me anymore. Everyone calls me Kate, so I guess I would just change it to that.
I would be thrilled if I could just go through life without anyone else deciding to call me Vicki/ie/y. I like the name Emily a lot, but I don't know that I can see myself as an Emily.
Danes, I come from an Italian family with names you don't normally hear. My mom wanted to give us all American names. I'm not exactly sure what or how they named any of us.
Meghana, I was in Kohls a few weeks ago roaming the shoe department when I heard a woman saying "Meghana, Meghana!" and I turned around. Turns out a lady was looking for her daughter, who was about 4 yo. Totally made me think of you!
mrs.spunky - LOL! I never knew anyone with my name growing up (except for the american girls name Meghan), but I think the name is getting more popular among the Indian crowd
Let me say I love the name Einat...I think it is beautiful and no joke, told DH I wanted to name our child that (if a girl) so einat - I'll take yours for ya!! I hated my name as a kid and it doesn't bother me anymore like pp - but I always wanted something more original and not so common - I went to school with literally 7 Kristen's (elementary...forget when I got to HS)
My mom chose Jamie & talked my father into it b/c his name was James (he was modest, said they didn't need to name a child after him). I've always loved it b/c my dad was my best friend~ & I know it sounds sappy but it's a huge honor to be named for him.
I've always hated my name but I especially hate when people call me "I". Makes me nuts. I'm happy with Reenie or Reen, which all my friends call me. When I was younger I wanted to be an Amy. Now, Francesca would go perfectly with my new last name.
Uppereast, one of my best friends growing up had the opposite problem as you, her full name is Vicki and everyone, teachers in particular, wanted to call her Victoria, and some felt pretty strongly that there was no way her full name was Vicki, that it had to be Victoria. I actually love my first name (Elizabeth), but I don't love it was also my mother's and grandmother's name, so my family doesn't even call me by it, they call me by my middle name, which I do not care for at all.
I always liked Ally, not too found of Allyson which is my full name. When I was younger before you could customize everything I hated that I could never buy anything with my name on it and it has always annoyed me that I ALWAYS have to spell my name.My mom wanted to name me Joy Christine, thank god my dad won that battle! If I could change my name to something it would Alex or Sadie.
I get the "no, seriously, what is your REAL name?" all the time b/c my name is a nickname for Catherine/Katherine, Caitlin/Kaitlyn, etc. I'm half tempted to be like, would you like me to whip out my drivers license or Social Security card for me to show you?! I was named after both of my grandmothers. Mom's mom was Catherine called Kate (my mom is Catherine too) and dad's mom was Helen and my middle name is Helene. So it's frustrating when people tell me, basically, there's no way my name is actually MY name.
I have recieved a lot of things lately with Kimberly. People just assume. I have even had plane tickets issued Kimberly b/c the person who processed it or whatever changed it - days before online.
