Having trouble with a vendor, help!

So back in June I booked my jazz trio for the ceremony and cocktail hour.  They were very highly recommended by some of my other vendors and were great in the beginning.  It seemed as soon as I gave them my deposit they stopped being so great.  I sent them the contract with the deposit and they were supposed to sign it and send it back.  This was in JUNE, and after many many many attempts to get it from them they still have not sent it.  They would say "dropping it in the mail today. . ."  At least when they were giving me excuses they were responding to me.  I have tried contacting them 3 times over the past month or so and have not had a single response.  I even went as far as to contact one of the vendors that recommended them, he contacted them and told them they needed to reply to me and they still have not.I am at my wits end right now!  What should I do?  I need advice.  I am afraid if I cancel I will never see that deposit again, but it may be worth it to loose some money.  They are the only vendor that is stressing me out!!!  What would you do in this situation?

I'm so sorry to hear about your dilemma! Are you wanting to get out of the deal altogether? I'm brainstorming so my ideas may not work for you. Here ya go... Is there anything in your contract that would indicate recourse? I'm not sure how serious you want to get, but maybe legal action is possible to at least get your deposit back? If so, I would send a certified letter with: * Communication asking for your deposit back per a breach of contract (their inability to communicate with you in a timely manner, or whatever the breach may be). * Outline when you tried to contact them and the method of contact. I would also include communication from the referring vendor. Or, site reasons for the breach. You might be able to use the certified letter for tracking purposes should you be able to take legal action. I know, kind of extreme. Or, if the deposit was made with a credit card, perhaps you can contact your credit card company and ask for a reversal? I'm so sorry you have to go through this. Everything will work itself out, I know it!

I am glad you gave me this advice because it is excatly what I have started putting together!  The contract is farily simple, not a lot in it, nothing on cancellation/refund of deposit.  Luckily I have done everything via e-mail so I have all of the e-mails that have gone unanswered and all of the e-mails where I ask for the contract to be sent back with their signature. I also have the e-mails where the assured me it was in the mail.  Unfortunatly I paid with a check :-(  That is all they accepted.  I will send it certified mail tomorrow.I also decided that regardless of what they say I no longer trust them so I have booked another quartet.  I hope they give me my deposit back, but even if they do not I do not think it is worth it to be stressed over the thought of if they come or not the day of the wedding.I am not sure what the rules are on giving negative feedback on vendors, but I do not want othe knotties to book this group without knowing everything.  I have posted the information in my bio.

I think you're making the right decision. I, too, would be concerned about their ability to show up for the reception! You don't need that headache. You also have plenty of time to find another musical vendor. Worst case scenario, you may loose the deposit. But, they may respond to your letter, too. In which case, you can perhaps get your deposit back. I think there are bridal feedback forms and I would definitely be in touch with the referral vendor. Best of luck!!!

What are the bridal feedback forms?  I would be interested in filling one of those out!!!  I have already contacted the vendor that referred them.  Thanks for you help!

I was thinking of message boards. But, you may be able to Google their band name, find out where they are listed and see if you can comment or rate them on those referral sites.

If you're looking for another jazz trio, I highly recommend the Foster Oden Trio.  They played our cocktail hour and everybody loved them.Let me know if you're interested and I'll dig up a phone number for you.Good luck with getting your deposit back!   :)

Thanks for the recommendation!  I actually just booked the Allegro Quartet.  I am not sure why I did not book them in the first place, as I have a lot of experience with them and trust them.  My mind is at ease now, I have sent off my letter canceling, certified mail, and now I guess I just wait and see if they give me my deposit back.  Fingers crossed!
