Getting the dress on the plane... New Idea

I went to a bridal expo a few months ago.  The cake was great, but everything else was completely not for destination brides.  I did talk to a local dry cleaner about dress preservation after the wedding.  She mentioned that they have this new thing specifically for DW brides to carry on their wedding dresses.  I searched today for more information and found the link below.  I need to call my airline and see if the size is going to work, but I just thought someone else out there might like this information too!http://weddinggownspecialists.com/courier/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=4

    This is a great idea - but seems to work better if your dress is a more lightweight tulle or jersey knit skirted dress. . . . I am still stumped on how to take my dress with me. I have a pretty traditional satin dress, can anyone else share their ideas as well? TIA!!!

    I would ask your local dry cleaner as well.  They may be able to help you out.

    In all the time I've spent on this board, I've only heard of one bride not being able to get her dress hung in a closet on the plane (usually in first class). I don't think it's usually a problem. You're a bride, you're getting married and they usually even offer :)

    Thanks Robyn - that is reassuring. I did call the airlines (US Airways) and ask and she said that she herself has seen brides allowed to hang her dress in the first class closet - but she had to tell me that is not GUARENTEED. I am just afraid that I won't be able to and then I have to hold it for three and/or six hours and the layover in between. Where I could just pay for a second suitcase and check it. Any Mrs. out there that DID check their dress?

    I'll take my chances of them telling me no, FI's mom can be a total B*tch and normally gets whatever she wants from people, so if worse comes to worse, I'll unleash her fury on the airline attendents (lol).  I'd be careful about checking your dress though, what happens if your luggage gets lost???

    Maria, you can always lay the dress over the suitcases in the overhead bin if they won't hang it. You can also roll it up and put it under the seat in front of you....if you roll it instead of folding it you won't get as many nasty creases. If all else fails, I would roll it up and put it in a small suitcase as your carry on. Please don't check it. Since your dress is satin, you'll probably have to have it steamed when you get there no matter how you take it on the plane. A lot of brides swear that just hanging it in the bathroom and running the shower on hot will produce enough steam to get the wrinkles out. Otherwise, most hotels should offer steaming services. Or you can buy a travel steamer.

    Hee hee... when in doubt - tears always help things along. Even the nastiest of flight attendants couldn't say no to a CRYING bride :)

    I definitely would not check your dress, but I am very wary of just carrying mine on the plane in the garment bag.  The thing that I posted about is actually a box that fits in the overhead bin, you carry it on the plane.  I have personnally seen one bride have to put her dress in an overhead bin, and have had two friend IRL that had to put their dress in the overhead bin (no space in the closet in 1st class).  One girl had her dress crushed by someone elses bag.  I don't want to rely on the assumption that the flight attendants will bend the rules for me just because I am getting married.  I'm sure it works out fine for most brides, but with my luck...  I would end up with a crushed dress...

    This looks interesting... but i guess i am too cheap to spend $50 on this...I have a feeling i will just be carrying it separately. Plus, it will make me feel that much more important :)
