WWYD? Taking an extra day off after the HM

So FI isn't starting his new job until the Tuesday after our HM. I was planning on going back to work the Monday after we get back. Now I am jealous and wanting to spend an extra day at home with my H! I will continue to accrue PTO the rest of the year and I still have 27.48 hours free to use.

So what would you do?

Re: WWYD? Taking an extra day off after the HM

  • Does he get a good amount of PTO for the rest of the year? If so then I would say save it and take a long weekend together later in the year. But if he is maxed out for the year pretty much then take it!
  • We get back on Friday and I am taking Monday and Tuesday off. FI will be back at work the day after we get back.
I have to go to the Soc Sec office and RMV one day and I want to spend some extra time with my son.

  • We ended up taking the Monday off to just unwind and unpack. That and it makes it a shorter work week which is always nice!!

  • I voted yes.  We get back on Monday, I'm not going back to work till Friday.

  • I wanted 2 extra days after our Honeymoon before coming back to work just to relax and etc. My boss squashed that! So if you can do it! DO IT!
  • I cannot even imagine how hard it would be to go back to work after the HM if FI was able to stay at home. I think if I were you, even if I planned to go into work, I wouldn't be able to.
  • Take it off! :) My FI and I are taking two days off after we get back from the honeymoon (since we get back on a Wednesday), that gives us four more days to unwind at home together before jumping back into the grind.

  • I am taking an extra 2 days off after we return. We are getting back on Wednesday and I am staying off the rest of the week. Anyone who has taken a vacation knows you need a vacation from your vacation! I know I will have house stuff and unpacking to do before I go back to work.
  • We get back on a Friday but we are still taking Monday off. We will use that day to catch up with bills and mail. With our work schedules it is hard to get to the post office during business hours. Plus we will probably use that day to get laundry done and thank you notes started.

  • We are taking the day after we get back to rest and relax. FI wasn't going to but then he changed his mind when he found out that I was. I think I would cry if I had to go right back to work the day after getting home from dreamy Jamaica..

  • Take it off - gives you an extra day to settle into the new house. You only do this part once! :)

100% take the day off. You won't regret it. Plus these are the first few days that you will be living with him, so you will want as much time as possible.

You can send me your PTO if you really want to go back to work on Monday!  Just kidding. I'm jealous. Pretty much allllllll of the time I took off for the wedding had to be unpaid as I only started my current job in April. Enjoy it!

  • I would definitely take it!  We're both taking the Monday and Tuesday off after we get back and then July 4th falls on the Wednesday.

    Take it Midge, take it!!
  • Hell fucking yah.  You will need the down time and probably could use the time to organize your shiiit.
  • We are getting back kind of late Sunday.  We both took Monday off, but I took Tuesday too just to get the house back to normal and to mentally prepare to go back to work!  Unfortunately FI doesn't have as much PTO as me (since he wasted it on March Madness this year, haha)

  • Definitely take the day off if you can!! (which I'm sure you've already planned on by now). I am, and I know I'll need it. We got lucky though and it's a holiday the Monday we return (Canada Day), which will give us Sunday and Monday to unpack, unwind, and spend some quality time with the kids before returning to the grind (and the real world!!)

  • I would take the day off. That way the two of you can have a nice day at home to unwind before you head back to work.

  • Well I can't see the poll results but it sounds like I should take the day off. ;)

To whomever asked about his PTO, he's not going back to work until that Tuesday because he's starting a new job that day. We honestly don't know what his PTO/vacation time will be like but I'm sure he'll have plenty since he won't have used any of it yet.
  • Definitely take the day off with him and enjoy it together.
