Veil/No veil

So I'm wanting to know everyone else's opinion. Are you going to or did you wear a veil for a beach wedding? At first I was absolutely not going to wear one, and then when I was trying on dresses, I tried on the veils just for kicks, and now I really like it and am considering wearing one. Just one of the short ones. But my mom thinks I still shouldn't wear one because it will get blown around in the wind and all. And I know it is ultimately my decision, but I was just wondering what others are doing or those that have already gotten married, what you did.

Re: Veil/No veil

  • For me personally, I couldn't feel like a "bride" without a veil. I'm getting married on the beach, too, and I think it will be fine.
  • I'm doing a veil.  I had first thought I was going to do a shoulder lenght, but am now doing a chapel length one.  The bridal dress consultant suggested it because of the wind, the shorter one could blow in your face, etc. on the beach, but because longer ones are a little heavier (since there is more veil) and where it hits (i.e. your feet), this is not a problem.  If you look at others' pictures, the longer veils look amazing.
  • I'm doing a long veil too for those very same reasons. The longer ones might look okay getting blown around, but the short ones will just go in your or FI's face. Another knottie also suggested lightly spraying the veil with hairspray just before you leave. She said it weighs it down a bit more.
  • I'm doing a veil, but not the one that covers your face. I'm not sure of which length I will select yet, probably a elbow length one.If you want to wear one...go for it!
  • I don't think I'm doing a veil, I've never really liked them, but like you, I might change my mind once I start trying on dresses.  If you want to wear one then you should!
  • I'm torn about this also. I don't want to wear a veil, but my mom is trying to convince to wear a veil. When they went to bring a veil in the bridal store I practically screamed "No Veil", mom was very embarrassed.I'm just want the vibe to be sort of on a more fun and casual side, and to me a veil says formal. My mom has the opposite opinion of your mom, she thinks it will be pretty for the pictures at least if there is a veil flying around.Go with what makes you feel special!
  • I didn't really want one, but it did look good with my dress. It was windy when we took the family pictures on the lawn and DH just tucked it in the back of my halter dress. It was finger tip length. Then I took it off for the rest of the pics and evening. So, I had it on maybe 30-40 mins.
  • I'm not a veil girl, so I'm just wearing a flower in my hair.  I tried on viels with my dress, but just wasn't feeling the "look". I think you should go with whatever you want, beach or not, if you want a viel, do it!
  • I'm not doing a veil, partly b/c of the blowing around in the wind thing, and partly b/c it's a lot of $ to spend on something I'm going to take off after 15 minutes.  Instead, I'm going with either a sparkly comb or a flower.

  • Thank you all so much for your feedback. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet, but it's nice to know I'm not the only one having a hard time deciding! It will probably depend on what I decide to do with my hair I guess. Or if I decide to go with a headband or not. So many decisions! The actual wedding planning has been easy. How funny is it that this is the biggest problem I've had so far? lol
  • I am not doing a veil either but I found a dress at David/'s Bridal that has a detachable train/veil piece that is on the back of the dress.. I think that is better then anything..
