October 2012 Weddings

Day of Coordinator?

So, I know that I've said before that I'd like a DOC but I didn't think it was in budget.

Lately I've been kinda panicing about not having one for a few reasons:
1)  Our officient is a family friend and she'll only have done 1 or 2 weddings before ours.  We need a little guidance for the ceremony!

2)  I know that my mom will not relax the day of the wedding if there's no one else there to coordinate everything

3) for my own piece of mind and sanity!

This morning I emailed 3 different wedding coordinators about DOC services.  I've heard back from one so far, and she said DOC is usually around $1,700, but packages can be customized to individual needs.  I have no idea what the average cost of DOC is, so I have no idea if this is reasonable.  If you are using a DOC can you tell me about how much you are paying for it?

Thanks so much for your help!

Re: Day of Coordinator?

  • I'm meeting with one next Monday and she is going to charge me $700.  She is running a special though and her normal rate is $1000.  This is the least I've seen in my area and I've gotten quotes for $1200, $1500 and even $2000.  I think average would be around $1000-$1200.  $1700 is a little high in my opinion, but it could be average for your area.

  • Thanks...I have phone calls set up with 2 of the 3 that I emailed.  I'll know more info about price after I chat with them.

I have a feeling that around $1,700 is going to be the norm for Albany, NY area DOCs.  Everything is more expensive in my area than in a lot of other areas that I see on the Knot boards.  And to think NYC brides get married upstate because they think it's a bargain LOL!

  • Go to my planning bio, CIndy is great she was $375 for DOC i would assume a bit of a travel charge would be added for ny but still way under doc's out there. good luck
  • Thanks Shoebie...that is a great price, but I'm looking for someone who is more local and is familiar with our venue and the rest of our vendors.

I have phone calls set up with 2 DOCs on Thursday afternoon...one at 4pm and another at 5:30.  As long as they don't keep me on the phone for over an hour and 1/2 like our first phone chat with our DJ did, I should be fine lol!  Still haven't heard back from DOC #3...the first 2 replied back to me within minutes (and made great first impressions!).

Hopefully we can come up with a package that's $1,500 or under.  I was initially hoping for under $1,000, but I guess that's not realistic for my area.

  • MY DOC is $950. She basically gets involved the week of the wedding. Confirms all of the vendors and takes care of everything the day of.

  • A coordinator is included with our venue and we have to use them.  But on our proposal ,it is priced out to $1750 I think.  But they help throughout the entire process, in addition to the day of.  To me, this is so worth it.  I don't want to have to be the one coordinating all the little things leading up to and the day of.  I want to just relax and enjoy the day and let them take care of all of the stuff to make it work.

  • I was quoted in the $1500 range so I don't think $1700 is too much. The coordinator I went with is $600 to stay through cocktail hour and $1000 to stay through the evening. She does most of her work the 2 weeks leading up to the wedding. But she is also doing all of my design and flowers so that may be why she charges less because she is getting $5000 from me on other charges...

  • Our coordinator is about $1,500 for having them assist/run rehearsal, help with getting ready, ensuring things start, get everyone down the aisle, checking set up, getting everyone to reception, confirm everything with the vendors.  Then we are paying a little extra for help with my dress (as they have to modify it to make it more wheelchair friendly - they leveraged a relationship with a local salon and then help with decor/floral design).  I've got unlimited email access to the planners and then in person meetings closer to.  Our venue requires we hire an approved coordinator and we just "clicked" with this team so well.
