Hello Knoties,Last night as I was thinking about centerpieces, a friend of mine mentioned fake flowers. I DONT LIKE FAKE FLOWERS, but the idea was very appealing! I plan on doing cylinder vases with a submerged flower in the middle surrounded by rocks on the bottom and floating candle on top, but do I use a fake flower or real flower. Any suggestions?

    I think you can use either.  The main issue that I've heard about is weighing the flowers down so that they do not float.  A lot of people use river rocks or marbles or something and I've also hard of using aquarium glue.  If you google "submerged flower centerpieces" or something like that, there are a lot of pictures and resources. Also, check on the DIY board, those girls have some great ideas. If it were me, I'd strongly considering doing fake so that I would not have to stress about it at the last minute.

    I heard there are certain issues with fake material being in water. The material does not hold up or something like that I would check that out, what can hold up in water.  I just automatically dislike fake flowers, I rather people just do candles, feathers, rocks or something like that then fake flowers because the only way fake flowers look real is if you spend a lot of money on it and it is the same price as real ones. So might as well get real ones.

    We did the exact same centerpieces and used real flowers.  Just like Fran said, we used river rock.  It's inexpensive and looks nice.  The flowers were not expensive at all.  We just needed one stem for each centerpiece.And I really don't like fake flowers, so that wasn't even an option.

    I did those exact centerpieces! I used fake flowers - but- they were fake calla lilies, so they weren't a cloth material and were closer to a plastic. No one knew they were fake under water, at least that I was told. I waited until they were on sale at Hobby Lobby for 50% off and stocked up. I got my vases and river rocks at the dollar store, so all in all, they ran about $4 a pop.
