2 Random Question

1) My dogs are well trained. They never pee or poop inside. For the past three days I have found pee in the shower. No where else. What the heck are they doing?2) What do you send for condolences (on a death) to a Jewish family? All I have heard is you are not supposed to send flowers.

Re: 2 Random Question

  • 1. I dunno, but you are lucky. Roommates cat usually goes for my bed. :(2. food?
  • I only have a suggestion for #2. which is: uncut fruit or baked kosher goods.
  • 1. No idea2. Are they still sitting Shiva?  If so, round foods are good.  What about a donation to their synagogue?

  • 1) Could they possibly have a bladder infection? Are either of them still puppies? Jessie is well trained, but has a puppy moment every once in awhile. It takes time to have complete bladder strength.2) I have no idea...

  • Have you spoken to Michael about the shower issue?  And for your second question, where's E when you need her?  ;-)
  • Mrs AF - god that is horribleI like the food idea, but I find (in my experience) that a lot of food goes uneaten. Not that flowers do much either. Night, I LOVE the donation idea. I will look into that, thanks!
  • Scarlet - know that you mention it... hahahaAnd no, the one is two and the other is between 8 10. We are not sure because we adopted him from a shelter.I am actually kind of nervous it is going to turn into some kind of odd 'marking' war between the two of them.
  • Yeah, he likes to hide in my room and then if the door gets shut, the first place he pees is my bed. :/
  • If it just started happening, maybe the older one feels like he/she can't hold it and decides the best place to go is somewhere easy to clean?Or, it could be something medical, like a bladder infection.  Make sure that both of them stay hydrated and watch for any signs of discomfort - lackluster appearance, lack of appetite, not drinking, less energy, etc.I wouldn't be thinking a behavior issue unless there is some major change that you've made in the last week.

  • If you're going to pay a shiva call, you should bring some sort of food. If you're not going to pay a call, the "norm" in my experience is to make a donation in the name of the deceased to whatever charity represents what they died from (e.g., American Cancer Society, American Lung Association, etc.) If you can look up a copy of the obituary, it will usually say where donations are preferred. Many people will give food in person and still make a donation. Most charities are set up so that they ask if the donation is in anyone's name and then they'll send a card to the family (if you provide the name/address) letting them know a donation's been made.
  • Until you find the cause, spray it with something like Nature's Miracle. It gets rid of the scent, in case they are trying to mark.

  • To clarify -- you'd make the donation in your own name, but "in memory of" the deceased.
  • Have you spoken to Michael about the shower issue?Hehehe, my mind went to the same place. In other news, one of my really good friends told me that she has been trying to break her boyfriend of the habit of peeing in the bathroom sink, and he insists that it's totally normal and all guys do it. I asked FI and he says he certainly doesn't pee in the sink... weird huh?

  • Yuck, who in their right mind thinks it's okay to pee in the sink???No idea on the dog issue, I have cats.  Maybe a kidney problem; come to think of it when my sister's dog had cancer he lost control of his bladder.  Probably not the issue though. No idea on the Jewish mourning thing either.
  • Or, it could be something medical, like a bladder infection. Make sure that both of them stay hydrated and watch for any signs of discomfort - lackluster appearance, lack of appetite, not drinking, less energy, etc.I am going to come back and post on this since I ironically read no less that four threads about odd-cat-peeing-behavior on another message board a few days ago. Don't ask.Apparently odd-cat-peeing-behavior is a big sign of  urinary tract infection or something fun like crystals in the urine. So basically, ditto Tide. Didn't think I would use that so quickly :)

  • If youre still reading this...its common to give food....we Jews like to eat. :)  Deli foods and/or sweets and/or fruits or like a nut/dried fruits tray is appropriate.  Especially if theyre sitting shiva...because then they are hosting people.  I have no clue about your shower, however.  :)
