Re: Guest attire request

  • Yeah and I used to be a little rave kid with earrings in my face and purple hair for that long too. And then I grew out of it.

  • ootmother- 'ugly' is subjective.  Again, I understand it's not for everyone.  I love it myself, and find much of what others consider ugly, beautiful.
  • Marcus is going to make a totally hot vampire groom!
  • How is it different than someone having a 'White Party'? I see these often in the summer, where all guests are requested to wear all white to a simple party. This is a bigger event than a simple summer party.Well, the point of a white party (which are stupid, by the way) is to dress in white. So if you don't want to dress in white, there's no reason to go. The point of a wedding is not to make your guests match, it's to have your closest friends and family witness your commitment. So if someone feels strongly about not following the dress code, they have to decide whether to do something they don't want to, to break the "rules" you've set up, or to skip a very important day in your life. If you're adamant about it, put "black attire, please" on the invitation, but know that some people will think it's rude, some won't get it, and some won't follow it out of spite.

  • OP, you're so deep I can hardly stand it.  I want to swim in your depths.

  • You understand that all black is not for everyone yet you want to foist it on everyone you know. How would you feel as a guest is you were told that you needed to wear a pastel floral print in order to go to your friends or families wedding. You would probably have to go buy a new outfit that is not your style and would feel uncomfotable all evening. This is exactly what you are asking of your guests that they go get an outfit that is your style not theirs to dress like you want not to be themselevs to be goth like you. It is insulting to their individuality and very selfish and demanding.
  • To each their own...Im sure there were a lot of things about my wedding that my guest didn't agree with or that people on here may not agree with i.e open bar for only 1 out of the 4 hours and donations as favors , but at the end of the day we were married and we had a great party. Not one person complained.
  • Night-Sprite: You may drown; I am surprisingly shallow.
  • cew, your humor tickles me deep down in the dark recesses of my cold, dead heart.
  • Wait, where is your wedding?
  • Kittie, just understand that this is the ettiquette board.  While they are correct that it would be in poor taste to request that your guests where a certain color, I don't have a problem with your overall concept.  Here's what I would do if I were you.  Spread the word that the wedding is going to have a "dark" theme with lots of black, and just casually drop in a few conversations, "gee, I just really want people to know that this is going to be a black wedding, I would hate for anyone to show up in pink and totally feel out of place."  People will get the hint and spread the word, and then it's on them if they don't dress accordingly, you dig?Gosh girls.  You and all your pearl-clutching.  This is Kittie's day we're talking about.  You had your weddings, it's her turn now biotches.
  • Does that mean I can poke you, kdc?
  • I am surprisingly shallow. This was evident in your OP.
  • I would wear that.
  • Its in a castle here in Central Texas.

  • I'm also new and probably shouldn't butt in, but to roxy's question:Her bio says Texas but when you click on her SN it says New York?
  • ndaroxy- It will be held at Falkenstein Castle in Texas.
  • Ah Georgia, you are a girl after my own heart.  Why didn't I think of that?
  • Not one person complained.Yeah. Maybe not to your face.
  • Texas. A Black Wedding in Texas. God please let it be at midnight in December, for her guests' sake.
  • I do like that dress. Have you looked at the Gothic Weddings board? Some of those girls have really pretty black wedding dresses, too. If you click on the "View Another Board" drop-down box, you can find them under "theme boards."

  • Georgia - Goth Talk has to be one of my favorite SNL skits of all time. I think I'm the only person who actually likes Chris Kattan.

  • Oh shut up, Heels. You're just still bitter because no one wore the big puffy pumpkin costumes to your Fall Wedding like you requested.
  • Jay and Sara- Thats what I was getting at. OP- you live in New York? Seriously, do not put it on the invitations. If anything, spread by word of mouth that you'd prefer to keep things dark. (As Heels said)
  • cew, you know you can poke me anytime! Although I am a little sad you haven't commented on the hotness that are the pro pics I posted earlier. You biitch.
  • atayk-they just didn't complain to your face.  Everyone complains about a cash bar.
